(c) any penalty, forfeiture, or punishment incurred in respect of any offence committed against any enactments hereby repealed; or

(d) any investigation, legal proceeding or remedy in respect of any such right privilege, obligation, liability, penalty, forfeiture, or punishment as aforesaid; and any such investigation, legal proceeding and remedy may be carried on as if this Act had not passed; or

(e) any Act in which the enactments hereby repealed have been applied, incorporated or referred to.

(4.) This repeal shall not revive any enactment, right, office, privilege, matter or thing not in force or existing at the passing of this Act.

BARBADOS.

An Act to consolidate and amend the Acts
of this Island, relating to the Chief
Justice, Attorney General, and Solicitor
General.

E it enacted by the Governor, Council, and Assembly of this Island, and by the authority of the same, as follows;

Short title.

"The Chief

1. This Act Judge, and Crown Law Officers Act, 1891."

Chief Judge.

2. (1) It shall be lawful for her Majesty, salary, and powers as often as may be necessary, to appoint a chief judge of the Island of Barbados, and such chief judge shall, at the time of such appointment, be a barrister-at-law, or advocate, admitted to practise as such in the supreme courts of judicature in England or Ireland, or in the court of session in Scotland, and shall hold such his office during her Majesty's pleasure; and the said chief judge so appointed for this Island, shall have and exercise the same jurisdiction and authority as shall be necessary for carrying into effect the jurisdictions, powers, and authorities committed to the courts over which he presides, and such chief judge shall be entitled to demand and receive all such fees as have hitherto been taken and received by the chief justice; but such fees shall be paid into the public treasury of this Island for the uses of the public.

(2.) In case of the death or resignation of the said chief judge, or in case of any such sickness or infirmity as shall render him incapable of performing the duties of his office, or in case of his absence from this Island, it shall be lawful for the Governor to appoint some fit and proper person to act in the place and stead of such chief judge so dying, resigning, becoming incapable, or being absent, until a successor shall be appointed by her Majesty, or until such chief judge shall return to the execution of his office; and in the meantime, until a successor shall be appointed, or until such chief judge shall return as aforesaid, and shall enter upon or resume the disharge of his office in the said courts respectively, the person so to be appointed by the Governor, shall have and exercise all the jurisdiction, powers, and authorities hereby granted or vested in the said chief judge.

(3.) Such chief judge when so appointed as aforesaid, shall be entitled to receive from the treasurer of this Island, a salary of fifteen hundred pounds sterling per annum, commencing from the day of his assuming the duties of his office, which shall be paid to him monthly, and without any other warrant or authority than this Act.

Attorney General.

3. (1) The present attorney general of Salary. this Island, shall be paid monthly from the public treasury of this Island a salary of seven hundred and fifty pounds, per annum, without any other warrant or authority than this Act, provided always that the salary of

the future holder of the office of attorney *general shall be five hundred pounds payable on the conditions aforesaid.

(2.) The attorney-general, or any person appointed to act in his behalf, shall not be entitled to ask for, or demand any fee for conducting any prosecution at the court of Grand Sessions in this Island, but he, or any person appointed to act in his behalf. shall conduct such prosecution gratuitously.

Solicitor General.

4. There shall be paid to the officer holding the office of solicitor general, an annual salary of two hundred and fifty pounds from the public treasury, on the warrant of the Governor-in-Executive Committee by monthly payments.

Repeal.

5. The several Acts mentioned in the schedule to this Act are hereby repealed to the extent mentioned, provided that

(1.) Any rule order or bye-law now in force whether made under any enactment hereby repealed or not shall continue in force until otherwise provided; and

(2.) Any officer appointed under any enactment hereby repealed shall continue and be deemed to have been duly appointed under this Act; and

(3.) Any enactment or document referr ing to any Act or enactment hereby repealed shall be construed to refer to this Act or to the corresponding enactment in this Act. (4.) This repeal shall not affect (a) the past operation of any enactment hereby repealed nor any thing duly
