ments for passage. Governor, to make all necessary and proper enquiries and arrangements for the passages

of any persons assisted under this Act.

Repeal.

7. The several Acts mentioned in the schedule to this Act are hereby repealed to the extent mentioned; provided that

(1.) Any rule order or bye-law now in force whether made under any enactment hereby repealed or not shall continue in force until otherwise provided; and

(2.) Any officer appointed under any enactment hereby repealed shall continue and be deemed to have been duly appointed under this Act; and

(3.) Any enactment or document referring to any Act or enactment hereby repealed shall be construed to refer to this Act or to the corresponding enactment in this Act.

(4.) This repeal shall not affect
(a) The past operation of any enactment
hereby repealed nor any thing duly
done or suffered under any enact-
ment hereby repealed; or

() any right, privilege, obligation, or lia-
bility acquired, accrued, or incurred
under any enactment hereby repealed;

or

(c) any penalty, forfeiture, or punishment incurred in respect of any offence committed against any enactments hereby repealed; or

(d) any investigation, legal proceeding or remedy in respect of any such right, privilege, obligation liability, penalty, forfeiture or punishment as aforesaid; and any such investigation, legal pro

ceeding and remedy may be carried on as if this Act had not passed; or (e) any Act in which the enactments hereby repealed have been applied, incorporated or referred to.

(5.) This repeal shall not revive any enact ment, right, office, privilege, matter or thing not in force or existing at the pasing of this Act.

BARBADOS.

An Act to consolidate and amend the Acts of this island relating to Coroners.

BE it enacted by the Governor, Council,

and Assembly of this Island, and by the authority of the same as follows; Short title.

1. This Act may be cited as "The Coroners Act, 1891."

Appointment salaries, and residence.

Number of Coroners and districts.

2. (1) The Coroners of this Island shall be six in number, that is to say, one for the parish of Saint Michael, including the City of Bridgetown, which shall form one district, to be called district "A"; one for the parishes of Christ Church and Saint George which shall form another district to be called district "B"; one for the parishes of Saint Philip and Saint John which shall form another district, to be called district "C"; one for the parishes of Saint Thomas and Saint James which shall form another district to be called district "D"; one for the parishes of Saint Peter and Saint Lucy, which shall form another district to be called district "E"; and one for the parishes of Saint Andrew and Saint Joseph which shall form another district, to be called district "F."

Salaries of Coron

(2.) The Coroner of district "A," shall be paid a salary of one hundred and fifty ers. pounds per annum, the Coroners of districts "B and C," shall each be paid a salary of one hundred pounds per annum;

Police Magistrate to continue coroner in District B.

Governor to fill vacancies.

Coroners to reside within limits of their districts.

and each of the Coroners of the other districts shall be paid a salary of eighty pounds per annum out of the public treasury in the usual manner by warrant of the Governor in Executive Committee.

(3.) The present police magistrate of district "B" who is now performing the duties of Coroner in that district shall be the Coroner for that district on this Act coming into operation.

(4.) It shall be lawful for the Governor, whenever a vacancy shall occur by death. resignation or otherwise, in the office of coroner of any of the above mentioned districts to appoint some fit and proper person to fill the office.

(5.) Each Coroner shall reside within the district of which he is Coroner, unless from special circumstances, the Governor shall see fit to dispense with this requirement; and in case of inability from illness or other good and sufficient cause, any Coroner shall be prevented from attending to hold any inquest within his district, it shall be lawful for the nearest Coroner to the place where such inquest shall be held, or it shall be lawful for the Coroner so unable to act, to depute in writing under his hand, any Justice of the Peace of either of the parishes comprised in his district, to hold such in quest, and on the holding of such inquest, the said nearest Coroner or Justice of the Peace so deputed shall have all the like powers and authorities as the Coroner him self would have if he held such inquest. Provided that in any case where the Coroner is unable to act, and the nearest Coroner or any Justice of the Peace is required to act in his place, the Coroner so unable to
