Mr. Travers Buxton. MEMBERS of the Society everywhere will regret to learn that our Hon. Secretary and Editor has been taken seriously ill. We are glad to report that he is now much better, and hopes to leave the Nursing Home shortly, but we fear that it will be some time before he will be able to resume the work to which he is so deeply attached. British WE learn from the Guiana Leaflet that Sir Edward Denham, the new Governor of British Guiana, has, in response to representations on the importance and justice. of granting to the aborigines of that Colony the legal ownership of sufficient suitable land in place of their present occupation of Crown Land, expressed his agreement with the view that such ownership must be communal. Our Society wrote to the Colonial Office in May, 1928, urging that certain areas should be earmarked for aboriginal occupation only, thereby securing their rights to land without fear of eviction or exploitation. Book. Lady Simon's We are glad to be able to announce that there is every probability of a cheap edition of Lady Simon's book Slavery being placed on the market in the early autumn. Arrangements are being made under which the Society will make a special effort to sell copies of this valuable work. The first edition, published at 12s. 6d., has been exhausted and a second edition is now on the market. There is thus every prospect of the popular edition receiving |
