MONDAY, January 7, 1856. Pursuant to the provisions of the Constitution, the Senate met at 12 o'clock, M., and was called to order by Charles Dickinson, the Secretary of the last session. Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Crouch. Lieut. Governor Purdy then took the Chair, and directed the Secretary to call the names of the Senators holding over, and the following answered to their names: Messrs. Burton, Day, Flint, French, Gove, Hawks, Hawthorne, Heintzelman, Hook, Lippincott, Mandeville, McCoun, McNeill, Norman, Rust, Scellen. The following Senators elect answered to their names, presented their credentials, and were qualified by the Hon. A. C. Monson, Judge of the Sixth Judicial District: Messrs. Coffroth, Cosby, McGee, Ferguson, Ashley, Crandall, Fiske, Dosh, Waite, McCallum, Shaw, Tilford, Bynum, Westmoreland, Wilson. Mr. Heintzelman offered the following resolution: Resolved, That the Standing Rules of the last Senate be adopted by this Senate, until further ordered, and that a Committee of three be appointed by the President to report suitable rules for the government of this body. Mr. Coffroth moved to lay the same upon the table. Upon which the ayes and noes were demanded by Messrs. French, Hawks, and Coffroth, with the following result : AYES. Messrs.
