This is a 21st Century version of the book Mr Casaubon died before writing: the product of vast erudition, but, in sum, a long-winded, repetitious roman a clef, which didn't convince me as much as it obviously convinced the author. I think he fears that may be the case: the reader is constantly being dug in the ribs and reminded of what 'we' have just been discussing and what 'we' are going to learn about next. But there are many impressive insights to be found in the mountain of verbiage, and the reader who gets to the end will know more than when they started.
