8. What does St. Luke say he wrote his Gospel for?

That we might understand. Luke i. 2, 3, 4.

9. Why are you taught as children?

God enjoins it: "Thou shalt teach thy children." Deut. vi. 7.

10. At what age did our Lord, as a child, dispute with the doctors? Twelve years. Luke ii. 42.

11. What person is praised by St. Paul for having known the Holy Scriptures from a child?

Timothy. 2 Tim. iii. 15.

12. If one be taught the faith when young, what is he likely not to do when old?

Depart from it. Prov. xxii. 6.

13. What will probably become of the child who is left to himself?

The Wise Man saith, "He will bring his mother to shame." Prov. xxix. 15.

14. What society has Christ our Lord appointed to teach his religion?

The Church: e. g. "Go ye, (that is, the apostles,) and teach all nations." Matt. xxviii. 19. "The Church, the ground of the truth." 1 Tim. iii. 15.

15. Has Christ appointed any other society besides the Church?

None.

16. Does not God, in the Old Testament, refer you to the priest's lips for instruction? Yes: "the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they shall seek the law at his mouth, for he is the messenger of the Lord of Hosts."

17. Is there not the same admonition in the New Testament, to seek teaching at the mouth of God's priests?

Yes: "He that heareth you, heareth me; and he that despiseth you, despiseth me. ." Luke x. 16.
