RR. from Leavittsburg to Cleveland, and 2 additional rails, or a "straddle," on the C. H. and D. RR., from Dayton to Cincinnati, to accommodate the wide-gauge rolling stock.

Out of net income were paid $206,238 for lease of Cleveland and Mahoning Railroad, and $115,439.38 for expenses over C. H. and D. Railroad; hire of engines and cars, $108,400.45. The balance of the net receipts were paid out for construction of new works, which amounted to $2,491,318.80. The additional means were obtained by the sale of new bonds, advances on same, and sale of old rails and other material.

The road was opened from Owensboro to Livermore, April 17, 1871, and to the Junc tion on Elizabethtown and Paducah Railroad in summer of 1872. The company contemplate an extension of their road to Nashville, the distance from the State Line to that point being about 35 miles. It is also intended to connect by an extension of 10 miles with the railroad now being built from Rockport to Mitchell, Ind.

Rolling Stock.-Locomotive engines, 2. Cars-passenger, 1; baggage and mail, 1; and freight, box, 2; and platform, 8-total, 12.

No operations are reported, as the road is incomplete.

Financial Statement.-Capital stock, $1,500,000; funded debt-1st mortgage 8 per cent bonds, dated February 1, 1872, interest payable February and August, and principal February 1, 1892, $1,500,000.

Gauge of tracks, 4 feet 8 inches. Weight of rail, 56 to 60 lbs. to yard. During the year, the freight tracks and facilities at Chicago have been much enlarged, and a new dock at Chicago for receiving lumber to be shipped has been commenced.

A contract entered into with the Mississippi Central, and New Orleans, Jackson and Great Northern Railways, which are operated under one management, ratified at the shareholders' meeting in May last, provides for the extension of the former railway to Cairo, and a mutual interchange of traffic with this road, on satisfactory terms. In consideration of the performance of the contract by those companies, this company is to invest annually one eighth of its earnings from traffic to and from those lines in the consolidated mortgage bonds of each railway, if they can be purchased at not exceeding par, in currency, the minimum amount of bonds of each road so to be purchased being fixed at $100,000 annually for ten years.

There have been obtained from the Cairo city trustees 1,500 feet of the Ohio levee, in Cairo, for the freight transfer station and car ferry for the Mississippi Central connection.
