PREFATORY NOTE.

THE object of the Compiler of this Manual has been to provide for Communicants a Guide to the Blessed Sacrament, as full and complete, as possible.

The matter has been drawn from writers of a bygone age, whose devout aspirations far exceed in fervency the language of modern compositions. The Preparation for Holy Communion has been taken from the "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas à Kempis, and will be found to express in fervid language all the longings of a soul "hungering and thirsting after righteousness."

The chief characteristic of this Manual is, that it contains the Office for Holy Communion, including the Collects, Epistles, and Gospels, together with a suitable collection of Hymns. This completeness, obviating as it does the necessity for using several books, will be found very convenient, in these days when the celebration of the Holy Communion as a separate service has become very general.
