Sadly, the writer of this book seems to have relied on some extremely unreliable information passed around among descendants in South Africa without checking details fairly readily available in England and Swtizerland. It should be remembered that the English 1820 Settlers at Algoa Bay, once they arrived suffered many privations and lost ready contact with both England and the Continent. Mis-rememberings and mis-transcriptions of names cause all manner of problems for genealogists and family historians. In particular, they should be suspicious of anything to do with francophone families from, for instance, Vaud.
I was horrified to find so many errors of fact when I first saw this book on display in the state archives of Neuchatel several years ago. Genealogists beware, and make sure you check original documents in the appropriate country for any specific life events.
