After being mistaken for a smuggler, Kemp leaves England with his cousin Carlos and companion Castro, only to later part ways with them. He is then nearly arrested and killed before being forced to rejoin his cousin and Castro. Kemp, Serafina, and Castro escape on a ship and hide on an island, but are unable to escape O'Brien's followers.
