This road is under construction, 14 miles being already in operation, and the remainder of the line graded and ready for the superstructure, which is being rapidly added. It is intended to have the whole line in operation during the year.

The Company also use the Portland, Saco and Portsmouth Railroad to carry their trains to and from Portland, Me., and in conjunction with the Eastern Railroad Company pay therefor annually 6 per cent. on the capital invested in said road, any surplus over the lease rent being divided between the lessees. A special dividend of 12 per cent. was paid March 23, 1870, on the stock of the P., S. & P. Co. in settlement of their claim to dividends in gold for the past six years.

These amounted, in 1861-62, to $107,828; in 1862-63, to $277,306; in 1863-54, to $627,659; in 1861-35, to $623,252; in 1865–66, to $615,337; in 1866-67, to $563,895; in 1867-68, to $550,852; and in 1868-69, to $609,180.
