OR our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities we know them; In transgressing against the Lord, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.

But now, O Lord, thou art our Father, we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we are all the work of thy hand. Be not wroth very sore, O Lord, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, see, we beseech thee, we are all thy people.

I will mention the loving-kindness of the Lord, and the praises of the Lord, according to all that the Lord hath bestowed on us, according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his loving-kindnesses.

O

I Do not ask, O Lord, that life may be
A pleasant road:

I do not ask that thou wouldst take from me
Aught of its load:

I do not ask, O Lord, that thou shouldst shed
Full radiance here;

Give but a ray of peace, that I may tread
Without a fear!

I do not ask my cross to understand,
My way to see;

Better in darkness just to feel thy hand,

And follow thee.

GOD, our heavenly Father, forgive our slowness of heart to believe thy gospel: forgive the rebellion of our hearts against thy law; help us, by that divine grace which Jesus promised, to keep thy commandments, to walk worthy of the light of thy truth, and to find, in our fellowship with Jesus thy Son, the power to overcome all evil; and thus, through our redemption and sanctification, manifest the riches of thy mercy as shown in Christ, through whom to thee be all honor evermore. Amen.

ND when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but who soever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words, in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his father with the holy angels.

ON earth we gain by losing,

And win by failure here;

We scorn the world's poor tinsel,
The golden crown to wear.

'Tis by defeat we conquer,
Grow rich by growing poor;
And from our largest givings
We draw our fullest store.

Then let the blossoms perish,
And let the fragrance go;
All the surer and the larger

Is the harvest we shall know.

All the sweeter and the louder
Our song of harvest-home,
When earth's ripe autumn smileth,
And the reaping-day has come.

LORD, increase my faith in thee and thy love and truth,

and in things holy, pure, and blessed, against all distracting temptations, and all thoughts and things that lead astray. Yea, Lord, increase my faith, after thy will and by thy wisdom, in thy life-giving presence, in thy eternal hope, in righteousness, peace, and hope of unfading immortality. Lord, thou alone canst give strength and life. Take hold of us with thy right hand, and bear us up and lead us on to eternity. Amen.

H1

EAVEN and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.

Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.

Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh.

And what I

O

say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

ONLY waiting, till the shadows

Are a little longer grown;
Only waiting, till the glimmer
Of the day's last beam

flown;

Till the light of earth is faded
From the heart once full of day;
Till the stars of heaven are breaking
Through the twilight soft and gray.

Only waiting till the reapers

Have the last sheaf gathered home;
For the summer-time is faded,

And the autumn winds have come.
Quickly, reapers, — gather quickly
These last ripe hours of my heart;
For the bloom of life is withered,
And I hasten to depart.

GOD, to the direction of thy wise and renewing providence we trustfully commit ourselves. Safe under thy protection and happy in thy favor, we would cheerfully follow whither thou art pleased to lead us. We desire only that portion of the good things of this life which thou seest to be fit for us, and would shrink from no trial which our souls need. Be with us this coming day and night, and in all coming time. In health and sickness,

in life and death, may we lift up our souls to thee, and make thy love our confidence and joy; and may we so pass through the changing scenes of this present world that we may be prepared for the higher service and joy of the world to come. Amen.

ND he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?

For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.

And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear. With what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you; and unto you that hear shall more be given.

For he that hath, to him shall be given; and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.

O

Он, help us, Lord! each hour of need

Thy heavenly succor give;

Help us in thought, in word, in deed,
Each hour on earth we live.

Oh, help us, when our spirits bleed,
With doubt and anguish sore;

And when our hearts are cold and dead,
Oh, help us, Lord, the more.

Oh, help us, through the prayer of faith,
More firmly to believe;

For still the more the servant hath,
The more shall he receive.

Oh, help us, Father! from on high;

We know no help but thee;

Oh, help us so to live and die,

As thine in heaven to be!

THOU who art the great Creator, when we worship before thy throne, we thank thee that we may call thee Father. Thou doest all things well. Thou lovest all whom thou hast created. Thy sun shines on the just and the unjust. Thy rains fall on the thankful and the unthankful. We pray that, like thee, heavenly Father, we may love all the members of thy family. Give us hearts to pity the suffering, to relieve the poor, to care for the sick, to befriend the friendless, to do good to all as we have opportunity. We thank thee for thy dear Son who came to seek and save the lost. May his spirit rule in our hearts, and to thee be the glory evermore. Amen.

BEHOLD, there went out a sower to sow

And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up. And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth:

But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.

And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased, and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some a hundred.

O GOD! who knowest how frail we are,
How soon the thought of good departs:
We pray that thou wouldst feed the fount
Of holy yearning in our hearts.

Let not the choking cares of earth
The precious springs of life o'ergrow;
But, ever guarded by thy love,

Still purer may their waters flow.

To thee, with sweeter hope and trust,
Be every day our spirits given;

And may we, while we walk on earth,
Walk more as citizens of heaven.

OST merciful God, who art righteous in all thy ways

thoughts help us, thy children, to obey thy voice and to serve thee with all our souls. That we may not fall into sin, may be watchful night and day. Make us more deeply grieved when we offend thee, more glad to give thee our whole hearts. May we shun those who would lead us astray. Make our hearts clean in thy sight. Help us to confess our faults, and to lay aside our easily besetting sins. May we run with patience the race that is set before us. O thou Lover of souls, grant thy mighty help to all thy children, that we may do thy blessed will, and reach the house of many mansions. Amen.
