RAISE waiteth for thee, O God, in Zion: and unto

PRAISE

thee shall the vow be performed.

Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.

Thou makest the outgoings of the morning and evening. to rejoice.

Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it: thou greatly enrichest it with the river of God, which is full of water: thou preparest them corn, when thou hast so provided for it.

Thou waterest the ridges thereof abundantly: thou settlest the furrows thereof: thou makest it soft with showers: thou blessest the springing thereof.

HARK, my soul, how every thing
Strives to serve our bounteous King:
Each a double tribute pays,

Sings its part, and then obeys.

Wake, for shame, my sluggish heart,
Wake, and gladly sing thy part;

Learn of birds and springs and flowers
How to use thy nobler powers.

WE thank the trees lift up their hands in praise,

E thank thee, O Father, for this day so sweet and

and every flower offers its incense, and every wandering bird sings its song of gratitude. We thank thee for the new life that fills the world, and for the perpetual spring-time with which thou sendest joy and new life into the souls of men. We thank thee for the justice that faints not nor is weary, for the truth which never fails, for the love that is sight to the blind and feet to the lame, that heals the sick, comforts the sorrowing, lifts up the fallen, and goes forth to seek and save the lost and bring the wanderer home; for the faith that springs afresh in human hearts; for the piety that has blessed mankind and made the world better; for the peace that smooths the pathway for our weary feet; and for the prophecy of glories yet to come. Amen.

I

WILL extol thee, O Lord; for thou hast lifted me up. O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.

Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

For his anger endureth but a moment, but his favor for life; weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, whence cometh my help.

My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.

O

Go up, go up, my heart,
Dwell with thy God above;
For here thou canst not rest,
Nor here give all thy love.

Go up, go up, my heart,
Be not a trifler here;
Ascend above these clouds;
Dwell in a higher sphere.

Let not thy love flow out
To things so soiled and dim;
Go up to heaven and God,
Take up thy love to him.

LORD, may the words of our mouths and the meditation of our hearts be acceptable in thy sight. Thou, Lord, art our Shepherd: lead us and feed us; and nothing shall be wanting where thou hast folded us, until we be brought to the pasture of eternal life. To thee, O Father, be all glory and praise. The Lord bless us and keep us; the Lord make his face to shine upon us, and be gracious unto us; the Lord lift up the light of his countenance upon us, and give us peace.

Amen.

In God crere be light; and there was light.

N the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light day, and the darkness he called night, and the evening and the morning were the first day.

And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and he cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth on the earth after their kind: and God saw that it was good.

OH! give thanks to him who made
Morning light and evening shade;
Source and Giver of all good,
Nightly sleep and daily food;
Quickener of our wearied powers,
Guard of our unconscious hours!

Oh! give thanks to nature's King,
Who made every breathing thing
His our warm and sentient frame;
His the mind's immortal flame.
Oh, how close the ties that bind
Spirits to the Eternal Mind!

LORD our God, the bountiful source of all good: we bless thee for our lives, and the gifts of grace, of nature, and of society; for instruction in divine truth; for the voice of thy calling, repeated so often; for thy patience, thy long-suffering, thy very long forbearance towards us, who often and grievously, very often and very grievously, have sinned against thee; for all the benefits we have received; for all the little good we may have done; for the enjoyment of present good; for thy promise and our hope. of good to come; for loving parents, for wise teachers, for benefactors never to be forgotten; for brethren of one mind with us; for kind friends, for faithful servants, for all who by their writings or words or example have helped us in our heavenward way. For all these, and for all other known or unknown, remembered or forgotten, mercies, we praise thee, and will praise; we bless thee, and will bless; we thank thee, and will give thee thanks, now and for ever. Amen.

O God created man in his own image, in the image of

;

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat and it was so.

And God saw every thing that he had made; and, behold, it was very good.

Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all he host of them.

IN

THERE is no price set on the lavish summer,
And June may be had by the poorest comer.
And what is so rare as a day in June?

Then, if ever come perfect days;

Then Heaven tries the earth if it be in tune,
And over it softly her warm ear lays.
Whether we look, or whether we listen,
We hear life murmur or see it glisten.
Every clod feels a stir of might;

An instinct within it that reaches and towers,
And, grasping blindly above it for light,
Climbs to a soul in grass and flowers.

The flush of life may well be seen

Thrilling back over hills and valleys;
And there's never a leaf or blade too mean
To be some happy creature's palace.

'N the morning, O God, the voice of prayer shall ascend to thee in the heavens; for thy providence has overshadowed us, and thou hast watched over our defenceless slumbers. Again the light of day returns, and all thy works break forth before thee into singing. The heavens declare thy glory. The earth rejoices, and is glad at the visits of thy love. And we, formed in thy likeness, endowed with thine inspiration, distinguished as we are among thy creatures, would join with universal nature, and call upon all around and within us to praise and magnify thy great and holy name. Amen.

A

ND the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden ; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

And out of the ground made the Lord to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food: the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

And a river went out of Eden to water the garden.

And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the Garden of Eden to dress and to keep it.

And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day.

L

Now is the hightide of the year,

And whatever of life hath ebbed away
Comes flooding back with a ripply cheer

Into every bare inlet and creek and bay;
Now the heart is so full that a drop overfills it,
We are happy now because God so wills it;
No matter how barren the past may have been,
'Tis enough for us now that the leaves are green;
We sit in the warm shade, and feel right well
How the sap creeps up and the blossoms swell;
We may shut our eyes, but we cannot help knowing
That skies are clear and grass is growing;

Joy comes, grief goes, we know not how;
Every thing is happy now,

Every thing is upward striving;

'Tis as easy now for the heart to be true

As for grass to be green, or for skies to be blue:
'Tis the natural way of living.

ET the heavens rejoice and let the whole earth be glad, for Thou, the Lord God omnipotent, reignest; and all, from the greatest to the least, are upheld by thine arm, which never grows weary. Thou givest us the night for repose. And now again for us the sun sheds abroad its light, and we awake rejoice in thy glory filling earth and sky, and to partake of thine exhaustless bounty. We would go forth bearing in our hearts a grateful sense of thy mercy. May we have thee always before us and in our hearts, to love and serve with an entire mind. Give us light within to make our way plain. And give us strength to walk in the right way even unto the end. Amen.
