Y brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations. Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering; for he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. I WANT the spirit of power within, O, that the Comforter would come, GOD of infinite mercy, in whose loving-kindness we trust for the supply of all our wants, vouchsafe to us such a portion of temporal good as may be needful to support us in our journey through life; preserve us from sad accidents and all evil; sanctify our hearts and direct our ways, that we may be united to thee by the living bond of obedience and charity; and that, always feeling the presence of our gracious and merciful Father, we may become a holy family before thee, and be received hereafter into the family of heaven, for which thou didst send thy best beloved Son to prepare us. Amen. IF ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. ET OH, not alone with outward sign Of fear, or voice from heaven, Though heralded by naught of fear, Though dropping as the manna fell, Holy and gentle, heed it well, The call to Truth and Love. TERNAL God, who hast neither dawn nor evening, yet sendest us alternate mercies of the darkness and the day; there is no light but thine, without, within. As thou liftest the curtain of night from our abodes, take also the veil from all our hearts. Rise with thy morning upon our souls: quicken all our labor and our prayer: and, though all else declines, let the noontide of thy grace and peace remain. May we walk while it is yet day, in the steps of him who, with fewest hours, finished thy divinest work. Amen. FOR for? `OR we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God. O OH! draw me, Father, after thee! In suffering be thy love my peace; And when the storms of life shall cease, In death as life, be thou my guide, LORD, we know not what we ought to ask of thee. Thou alone knowest what we need; and thou lovest us better than we can love ourselves. O Father, give to us, who desire to be thy children, what is best for us. We dare not pray for either crosses or comforts. We present ourselves before thee; we open our hearts to thee. Behold our wants, which we are ignorant of; behold them, and do according to thy mercy. Smite, or heal; cast us down, or raise us up. We adore all thy purposes, though we know them not. We are silent. We yield ourselves up to thee; having no greater desire than to do thy will as humble disciples of Jesus Christ. Amen. LACE thy delight in the Lord, PLAC And he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Trust in him, and he will give thee success. Be not provoked, so as to do evil. Yet a little while, and the wicked shall be no more: Thou mayest look for his place, he will not be found. But the meek shall inherit the earth; And delight themselves in the abundance of peace. O KING of kings, before whose throne Since heaven and earth belong to thee; O Holy Spirit, Fount of breath, Whose comforts never fail nor fade, GOD, our Maker, who alone canst give us the light we need, unseal our spiritual vision. Make us to discern the greatness of thy grace. Teach us the value of thy gracious messages, that we may know how to thank thee, that our hymns and praises may be the prompting and tribute of our hearts. Let not our faith be in word, but in power. When Christ is formed within us, then shall we be found fit for thy sanctuary. By true spiritual worship, we shall go from grace to grace, and from strength to strength, until we dwell for ever in thy presence. Amen. I WILL biess the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. O magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt his name together! The afflicted man cried, and the Lord heard, And saved him out of all his troubles. The angels of the Lord encamp around those who fear him, and deliver them. O taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man that trusteth in him. O fear the Lord, ye his saints; For there is no want to them that fear him. O THEY Who on the Lord rely Safely dwell, though danger's nigh; When we wake, or when we sleep, Faith and love can never fear. GOD, who faintest not, neither art weary; whose everlasting work is still fresh as thy creative thought: we bless thee for the pity of night and sleep, giving us the rest thou never needest. We would lie down each evening in peace and thankfulness, and commit the folded hours to thee. We would go forth each morning consecrating to thy service the gifts and powers thou hast committed to our trust. O Lord, through toil and repose, save us from any fatal slumber of the spirit; and keep us through life to the holy vigils of love and service, as they that watch for thy morning of eternity. Amen. |
