The main substance of several of the chapters has already appeared in the form of articles published during the past two months. When it was suggested that I should issue them as a collection of chapters dealing with some of the vital problems now confronting the democratic forces of this country, I agreed to do so; and now I offer them, together with two or three new chapters, to my prospective readers in the hope that they may prove to be of some little help to them in forming their own views on the questions which are discussed herein. The sole purpose of this publication is to advance the social and political ideals which I have at heart, and I propose to hand over any profits resulting from the sale of the book to the fund which the Labour Party is promoting with a view to erecting a suitable and lasting Memorial to the honour of those |
