THE Sermons of this volume were

none of them written for publication. Making allowance for some very trifling corrections, they are printed as preached.

They were addressed to a very mixed congregation, and so it has been the aim of the writer to use language and illustration as simple as possible, and yet not to decline the discussion of some difficult subjects.
