infirmities by teaching us what to pray for, and relieve our necessities by granting us far more than we desire or deserve. And let our prayer and praise be as a morning'sacrifice, for the sake of Him, who with thee and the Holy Ghost, art ever one God, world without end. Amen.

SECOND COLLECT.

O GOD, the Fountain of Wisdom and Father of Light, with whom is no variableness nor shadow of turning, we humbly pray thee, that as of thine own will, thou hast begotten us by the word of thy truth to be thy children and heirs of thy kingdom, so thou wouldest by the same word daily perfect us in thy fear and love, and stablish us in true holiness. Especially &c. Sow in all our hearts the incorruptible seed of thy word, that being thereby regenerated to a lively hope, we may abound in faith and charity, and do all such good works as thou hast prepared for us to walk in, through thy Son our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Or this,

O MERCIFUL God, who of thine infinite love hast given us the written revelation of thy will, open our hearts to an obedient reception of it, by taking from us all proud conceit of our own wisdom, all self-righteousness and unbelief. Let thy Holy Spirit lead us to a profitable remembrance of the truths we have now heard. Especially, &c. Let not the cares of the world, nor the deceitfulness of sin, nor the craft of the devil, choke the seed of

divine truth so that it become unfruitful, but grant that continuing instant in prayer, and looking unto Jesus, we may this and every day persevere in thy service, till we attain thy heavenly rest, through the same Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

A CONFESSION.

ALMIGHTY God, our Heavenly Father, have mercy upon us, who acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins, by which we have most justly deserved thy wrath and indignation. We have done what we ought not to have done, and have left undone what we should have done. If thou shouldest be extreme to mark what is amiss, we cannot abide it; we shall perish at thy presence. Spare us, gracious Lord; spare thy servants, whom thou hast redeemed with thy precious blood. Keep us from the punishment of our iniquities. Remove from our consciences the heavy burden of our guilt, that we may enter on this day with gladness of heart, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A GENERAL PRAYER.

O ETERNAL God, King of heaven and earth, grant us grace, to walk this day in thy laws. Deliver us out of every temptation to disobey thy will. May we never lose sight of the holy example of our Saviour Christ, nor by any wilful transgression grieve the blessed Comforter. Stablish us in the true faith of thy holy name. Increase in us hope and love, that we may abound therein with

thanksgiving. Grant us grace to mortify our members which are upon the earth, and putting off anger, wrath, malice, envy, uncleanness, and covetousness, to put on, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, long-suffering, purity, and contentment. May we above all things put on that charity which is the bond of perfectness. Enable us faithfully and diligently to discharge the proper duties of our various stations, and whatsoever we do in word or deed, may we do it in the name of the Lord Jesus, and in a steadfast regard to thy glory. May godly simplicity with Christian wisdom, direct all our steps. Thus fearing and serving thee, may we be kept looking to, and preparing for, the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; to whom with thee, and the Holy Ghost, be all honour and glory. Amen.

Or this,

ALMIGHTY and most merciful Father, the strength of all that put their trust in thee, despise not us thy unworthy servants, who return unto thee, earnestly desiring thy pardon and help. Sanctify to thy use, our souls and bodies. Enable us in keeping thy commandments, to please thee this day both in will and deed. Preserve us from all corrupt and false principles, unholy affections, and unbecoming actions. Deliver us from pride and envy, from falsehood and hypocrisy, from slothfulness and fretful anxiety, and from the inordinate love of this world. Grant us singleness of mind

in thy service, a tender and contrite spirit, and the peace of God to rule within us. Abiding in Christ our Saviour, as branches in the vine, may we be enabled to bring forth much fruit of good living. May we account it true honour to bear the cross after him, Our Lord, in self-denial, resistance to the evil one, and hearty surrender to thy will. As members of the same family may we love and comfort each other, and in our whole temper and conversation, may each of us adorn the gospel. Perfect thou thy strength in our weakness, and keep us ever leaning on the arm of thy heavenly grace, through Jesus Christ our only Mediator. Amen.

A PRAYER FOR TEMPORAL BLESSINGS.

O GOD, our help and comfort, the defence of all that put their trust in thee, save us we beseech thee, this day from every calamity, from sickness, and from death! Should it be thy blessed will, that any of these visit our dwelling, accompany them with thy abundant consolations, and with thy saving health. Prosper us in our proper duties, so far as may be for thy glory, and the good of our own souls! May we rejoice in the use of thy creatures, with contentment and moderation. Let us not be lifted up by success, nor cast down by disappointment; neither let our hearts be overcharged with any cares of this life. Mercifully regard our different conditions, and supply all our necessities, for the sake of thy son Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

M. O Lord, mercifully take us into thy holy keeping.

A. And evermore mightily defend us.

M. Help thy servants whom thou hast redeemed with thy precious blood.

A. And make us to be numbered with thy saints. M. Strengthen us with thy Holy Spirit.

A. Who put our trust in thee.

M.

O Lord, hear our prayer.

A. And let our cry come unto thee.

AN INTERCESSORY PRAYER.

O GOD, Merciful Father, have compassion on thy whole Church, and so rule and sanctify it, that all who profess and call themselves Christians, may glorify thee in this life, and finally by thy mercy, obtain thy heavenly kingdom. Enlighten with true wisdom all Bishops and Pastors, that they may faithfully and successfully fulfil their holy calling. Bless all benevolent and religious Societies, especially those which endeavour to spread thy Gospel in distant lands. Give an abundant harvest of souls to all missionaries. Grant knowledge and stability to all recent converts to thy holy religion. Comfort the meek-hearted, and recover them that have fallen. Bless our dear relatives and friends. Preserve all who travel by land or water. Support all who are in any adversity or affliction: especially A. or B. We ask all these blessings in the name and for the sake of Jesus Christ. Amen.
