FOR THE CONSOLIDATION OF THE STATUTES OF
THE PROVINCE OF QUEBEC.

CHAPTER TWO.

An Act to Authorize the Consolidation of the General Statutes of the Province of Quebec.

[Assented to 24th July, 1880.]

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislature of Quebec, enacts as follows:

I. The Lieutenant-Governor in Council may appoint a Commission. commission to consolidate the general statutes of this Province, which shall be under the supervision of the law officers of the Crown, and which shall be composed of a commissioner and two secretaries, one speaking the French and the other the English language.

2. The Commission shall classify, revise and consolidate Duties of the the statutes of a general and permanent character of the late Commission. Province of Canada, affecting the Province of Quebec, and

within the jurisdiction of its Legislature, as also those of this Province since 1867.

3. In consolidating such statutes, the Commission shall The same. incorporate therein, only the provisions which they shall then deem to be in force, and the authorities on which they base their judgment as to their so being in force shall be cited by them.

The Commision shall publish in the manner most convenient for reference, together with the consolidated statutes, affecting the or in a separate volume, according as they may deem most advisable, the general statutes which affect this Province, but are not within the purview of its Legislature, including Imperial statutes, and the statutes of the late Province of Canada.

6. They shall also publish, together with the consolidated statutes, or with the general statutes mentioned in the preceding section, as they shall deem most convenient, all orders in council, proclamations, treaties or documents, which shall be prescribed them by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council.

8. Whenever they shall deem any portion of the work sufficiently advanced, they shall cause the same to be printed and transmit to the Lieutenant-Governor, together with their report, a sufficient number of copies.

10. The expenses incurred in and about the execution of this work, shall be paid by the Legislative Assembly of this Province out of the fund set apart for contingent expenses.

11. The Act of this Province, 40 Vict., chap. 8, is hereby 8, repealed. repealed.

12. This act shall come into force on the day of the sanction thereof.
