MINUTES ANNUAL MEETING SIXTH SUPREME JUDICIAL DISTRICT Minutes of Meeting of the Bar Association of the 6th Judicial District held in the City Court Room in the City of Aurora, Illinois, on the 11th day of December, 1920. The meeting was opened and welcome given by Judge Plain, President of the City Bar Association of the City of Aurora, Illinois, and thereupon turned over to the Hon. E. P. Lathrop, of Rockford, President of the organization. Mr. Lathrop opened the meeting and after a few remarks by the President it was moved by Judge Heard of Freeport, seconded by Judge Edwards of Dixon, that the reading of the minutes of the last annual meeting be dispensed with. The President then briefly stated to the meeting that it would be necessary to nominate and elect officers for the ensuing year, and upon motion of the Hon. D. B. Ellis of Elgin, seconded by Theodore Worcester of Aurora, that a nominating committee of five be appointed by the Chair to place in nomination officers for the ensuing year, and to report during the afternoon session, the motion was duly carried, and the Chair appointed Mr. E. L. Lyon of Aurora, Harry North of Rockford, Harry Warner of Dixon, Hon. W.C. DeWolf of Belvidere and E. M. Burst of Sycamore, as a nominating committee. Hon. Logan Hay, President of the State Bar Association was then introduced to the meeting by President Lathrop and addressed the meeting upon the plans and work of the State Bar Association. At the conclusion of his address he called upon Judge Welsh of Rockford, Hon. E. D. Shurtleff of Marengo, Judge Plain of Aurora, Hon. D. B. Ellis of Elgin and H. C. Warner of Dixon, Judge A. C. Cliffe of Sycamore, and Hon. William George of Aurora for short. speeches and comment upon the work of the Bar Associations, both local and State. Mr. R. Allan Stephens, Secretary of the State Bar Association was then called upon for a short talk by the Presi dent. He talked for a short time about the work of the State Bar Association and the organization of local Bar Associations, and co-operation between the two. After the talk by Mr. Stephens the meeting adjourned to Hotel Aurora, where a very fine luncheon was served to about one hundred members of the Association in attendance at the meeting. The meeting re-convened at 1:30 in the afternoon and in accordance with the program was first addressed by Mr. Theodore Worcester of the Aurora Bar Association, on the new corporation law. The address of Mr. Worcester was a very scholarly talk on the good and bad points of the new corporation law and was interesting to every member present. Following the address of Mr. Worcester the Hon. Edward D. Shurtleff of Marengo presented a very interesting and spirited talk on the results of the Constitutional Convention. Mr. Shurtleff's intelligent analysis of the work done by the Constitutional Convention was appreciated and he was given frequent applause. Hon. Lee Mighell of Aurora next gave a talk on the Judicial section of the proposed new Constitution and after a short discussion he introduced Hon. Frederick R. DeYoung of Chicago, who enlarged upon the same subject. Mr. DeYoung, as a member of the Committee who framed the section, gave an exhaustive report upon this section of the new Constitution, which was intensely interesting to all members of the Bar. He held the closest attention throughout his entire address and responded to all questions upon interrogatories from the audience. Report of the nominating committee then was made and the following officers were unanimously elected for the ensuing year, in accordance with the report of said committee: President_. Lathrop of Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois On motion by Mr. Harry North, of Rockford, a vote of thanks was extended to the Aurora Bar Association for the hospitality and courtesy shown to the visiting members by the City Bar Association of Aurora. Upon motion of E. M. Burst, seconded by Judge A. C. Cliffe, and duly carried, it was determined that the meeting place for 1921 should be at Sycamore, Illinois. The sentiment was freely expressed by all members in attendance that this meeting of the Association was very successful and of great interest and profit to all those who were able to be present.
