PREFACE.

The universally-acknowledged usefulness of similar works for facilitating the practice in Superior Courts has induced the author to make this attempt, warranted, it is hoped, by an extensive practice in contentious matters,-to supply what he believes to have been a long-felt want with regard to procedure in County Courts.

The work may be regarded as a supplement to the publications which represent the existing practice of the Courts in actions and matters within their Ordinary, Equity, and special Statutory jurisdictions (except Admiralty and Bankruptcy), and the author trusts that the numerous and exhaustive notes and directions will be of practical value to Registrars, High Bailiffs, and Solicitors, for whose use the Formulist is intended.

Although familiarity with the practice in County Courts has rendered the preparation of the precedents a comparatively easy task, the author has nevertheless bestowed upon it his utmost care in the essential points of accuracy and conciseness, but he is not presumptuous enough to suppose that his endeavours have been altogether free from mistake-he will consequently feel himself under an obligation to those who may favour the work with public or private criticism, and for any suggestion which may tend to enhance the value of the Formulist, in the possible event of the issue of a Second Edition.

The cases cited include, it is believed, all the material decisions on practical points up to the date of publication, and the work comprises forms of proceedings under Statutes passed in the last Session.
