sary of Taxation, and for every officer authorised as aforesaid, respectively, to seize and take any meal, flour, dough, or Bread which shall be found in any such search, and deemed to have been adulterated, and all ingredients and mixtures which shall be found and deemed to have been used, or intended to be used in or for any such adulteration as aforesaid; and such part thereof as shall be seized as aforesaid shall, with all convenient speed after seizure, be carried to a Justice of the Peace, and if any Justice of the Peace who shall make any such seizure in pursuance of this Ordinance, or to whom anything so seized under the authority of this Ordinance shall be brought, shall adjudge that any such meal, flour, dough, or Bread so seized shall have been adulterated by any mixture or ingredient put therein other than is allowed by this Ordinance, or shall adjudge that any ingredient or mixture so found as aforesaid shall have been deposited or kept where so found for the purpose of adulterating meal, flour, or Bread, then and in any such case every such Justice of the Peace, or Commissary of Taxation, is hereby required to destroy the same, or to dispose of the same for some public purpose.

II. And be it enacted, that if any baker shall at any time make complaint to any Justice of the Peace, and make appear to him that offence which such baker shall have been charged with, and for any which he shall have incurred and paid any penalty under this Ordinance, shall have been occasioned by or through the wilful act, neglect, or default of any journeyman or other servant employed by or under such person so making complaint, then and in any such case any such Justice may, and is hereby required to issue out his warrant under his hand for bringing any such journeyman or servant before himself and other Justice or Justices, or any two or

12. 13. 14. And be it enacted, that every person who shall give information of any offence against this Ordinance, shall be entitled to have and receive one fourth part of the fines, penalties, and forfeitures, after payment of all costs, charges and expenses, which shall or may

be recovered by reason of such information, and that every person so informing, and every other person, shall be deemed, taken, and considered a good and competent witness, notwithstanding he shall be entitled to a part or portion of any such fine, penalty or forfeiture as aforesaid.

committing shall seem fit; and that whenever any baker or other person shall be convicted of a second offence under either the 6th or 10th section of this Ordinance, in addition to all other pains and penalties, the Justices before whom any such baker or other person shall be convicted of a second offence, shall cause the offender's name, place of abode, and offence to be published, at the expense of the party convicted, in some newspaper of the Colony.

17. And be it enacted, that every action or suit which shall be Actions against brought or commenced against any Justice of the Peace, Commissary of Taxation, member of the Police Force or Constable, or person, for any matter or thing done or committed in the execution of his office, by virtue of or under this Ordinance, shall be subject to and governed by the provisions contained in the 38th, 39th, 40th, 41st, and 42nd sections of Ordinance No. 14, of the year 1850, intituled "An Ordinance for the better collection of Duties on Rum "consumed within the Colony of British Guiana," and that all the rights, privileges, defences, and protection granted under and by virtue of said sections to any officer or person acting in the exercise of his office, shall be extended to and be had, held, and enjoyed by every Justice of the Peace, Commissary of Taxation, member of the Police Force, Constable, or other person, in every action, suit, or prosecution brought against him for anything done or committed by him in the exercise of his office, under and by virtue of this Ordi

18. And be it enacted, that in the construction of this Ordinance, Interpretation the word "Baker" shall mean every person making, or who shall make or sell or expose bread for sale; every word importing the singular number only, shall extend and be applied to several persons, matters, or things, as well as to one person, matter, or thing; every word importing the plural number shall extend and be applied to one person, matter, or thing, as well as to several persons, matters, or things; every word importing the masculine gender only, shall extend and be applied to a female as well as to a male, unless in any of the cases aforesaid it be otherwise specially provided, or there be something in the subject or context repugnant to such construction.

AN ORDINANCE TO UNITE THE COLONIAL HOSPITAL AND [Ord. 19 anno SEAMAN'S HOSPITAL OF DEMERARA AND ESSEQUEBO INTO 1850.]

ONE PUBLIC HOSPITAL, AND TO PLACE THE SAME UNDER

THE MANAGEMENT OF ONE BOARD OF DIRECTORS.

Enacted 24th June, 1850, published the 26th following,

Be it therefore enacted by His Excellency the Governor of Ordinance No. British Guiana, with the advice and consent of the Court of Policy 16, of 1839, repealed. thereof, that Ordinance No. 16, of the year 1839, intituled "An "Ordinance for the better providing sick Seamen with medical aid, "and for the establishment and regulation of a Seaman's Hospital "in Georgetown," shall be, and the same is hereby repealed.

2.
