manna and they died, but the thing that I shall give will give Eternal Life. He tells us the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and so we find his flesh to mean his Words. His Words, he will give for the Life of the world. His Words become flesh. His Words change our life; His Words change our flesh: Wonderful Words of Life.

The Jews therefore strove one with another saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? Taking his Words literally, or according to the letter, instead of according to the Spirit.

Paul understood it when he said, Who also made us sufficient as ministers of a new covenant: not of the letter, but of the Spirit; for the letter killeth, but the Spirit giveth Life.

Jesus therefore said unto them, Verily, Verily, I say unto you, except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, ye have no Life in yourselves. He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood hath Eternal Life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood abideth in me and I in him. As the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father; so he that eateth me he also shall live because of me. This is the bread which came down from Heaven; not as the fathers did eat and died: he that eateth this bread shall live forever. And when he saw that they still took a literal meaning he said, It is the Spirit that quickeneth the flesh profiteth nothing: the Words I have spoken to you are Spirit and are Life. Or, my Words are the flesh or covering of the Spirit.

The flesh he was talking about was the flesh of his Spirit, which was his Words; and the blood was the blood of his Spirit which was his thoughts. The flesh and blood are the outward picturing of words and thoughts.

Thoughts correspond to the blood which courses unseen through the veins; and the words correspond to the flesh, the outward picturing of the inward circulation.

Herein is one of the great secrets of Nature. Our secret thoughts and spoken words change the appearance of the body. Pure thoughts are continually purifying the blood, and as they are spoken, they fill the speaker and all who hear them with conviction.

Every thought we allow to run through us, changes the blood somewhat, and that is continually changing the entire physical system. We see this illustrated every day, very particularly with school children. They repeat their lesson over and over until they have learned it, they are one with the book, they have repeated it over in their mind silently or audibly until they know it by heart; they put it in practice, they believe it. They lay it up in store for future use.

Perhaps we haven't realized heretofore that so much depended upon our thoughts and words, but now that we are beginning to come to ourselves, we shall be very careful what we think and say. Particularly what we think, for the word is but the result of some thought back of it. Think no evil and before long you wont speak any. The power of life and death is in the tongue. It matters not whether you believe this law or not, it works on just the same like water running down hill, it goes on forever. Some might ask, was it a parable about eating his flesh and drinking his blood? The answer would be, yes -in that nature. His teachings were largely symbolic, though to his disciples he spoke very plainly at times.

But listen to this: He called to him the multitude again and said unto them, Hear me all of you and understand: there is nothing from without the man, that going into him can defile him? but the things which proceed out of

the man are those that defile the man. And when his disciples asked him the parable he said, Are ye so without understanding also? Perceive ye not, that whatsoever from without goeth into the man it cannot defile him; because it goeth not unto his heart, etc. And that which proceedeth out of the man, that defileth the man, For from within, out of the heart of man evil thoughts proceed, fornication, thefts, murders, adulteries, covetings, wickedness, deceit, an evil eye, railing, pride, foolishness: all these evil things proceed from within and defile the man. If these evil thoughts do not proceed from within, if we give them no place to dwell within, or do not dwell upon these or any other kind of evil thoughts, then we shall not be defiled.

All through this lesson he is calling our attention to the unreality of the physical body, to the unreality of anything that did not come down from Heaven. The Spirit and Life from Heaven is the Substance that is to be depended upon, and flesh is not to be depended upon. There is no stability in material things.

Forms and ceremonies are but symbols of the Substance that lies back of them.

There is no saving grace in forms and ceremonies; they but hide in this age, what in a former time they illustrated. The Scribes and Pharisees were chided so much upon this very idea. They relied so implicitly in the ritualism of the Jewish Church. They had a form of Godliness, but did not seem to depend upon the power.

The Scribes and Pharisees, what were they? Simply copyists and formalists. At first copying the writings and afterwards copying after one another, observing the traditions of men and leaving void the Word of God. And all down through the ages they have been held up in derision by different sects as they have arisen, and then those that deride them go and do the very thing they condemn.

Did ye never read this scripture, Judge not and ye shall not be judged, condemn not and ye shall not be condemned. Copy not after any one else, simply to make a copy, but get the idea they wish to convey and then use your own Symbols. Get the Substance of anyone's teachings and then use your own words. Don't be a Copyist, or a Formalist; don't submit yourself to do anything just because some one else does, but study to understand why they do so, and then do it in your own way.

The forms and ceremonies, signs and symbols, or copyings and formalisms of all churches are right so long as one does not lose the idea they are intended to picture forth. For this reason he said, Ye tithe mint, anise and cummin, and leave undone the weighter matters of the law, judgment, mercy and faith. These things ye ought to have done and not to have left the others undone.
