THE WIFE OF A VAIN MAN.
MISS SELMA BORG and MISS MARIE A. BROWN.
Paper, $1.00; Cloth, $1.50.

"The novels of Madame Schwartz are among the best. Interesting, quaint, and full of good sketches of human nature."-Spring field Republican.

BY THE SAME AUTHOR. GUILT AND INNOCENCE. 8vo. Paper, $1.00; Cloth, $1.50.

"A thrilling and romantic drama is constructed which keeps the attention riveted to the end, and the denouement of which will perhaps surprise the most experienced novelreader."-Home Journal, N. Y.

BIRTH AND EDUCATION. 8vo. Paper, $1.00; Cloth, $1.50.

"A novel of modern Swedish life, written with the descriptive ability of Miss Bremer, and with far more animation and interest."-Round Table.

HANDBOOK OF THE ADMINISTRATIONS OF THE UNITED STATES; comprising a Synopsis of the leading political events in American history, from the inauguration of Washington to the present period. Also, a Record of Contemporaneous English History. By EDWARD G. TILESTON. Flexible. GOLD AND NAME. With Photographs of the Presidents, from Washington to Grant. $1.50. Large paper edition, $1.50. $2.50. "A romance whose interest never flags from its opening to its close, and which should be read by every ambitious woman. "-N. Y. Ch. Advocate.

"This is a very long title to a very short book, but the peculiar excellence of its title is that it tells the truth, and the brevity of the book is its chief claim to admiration. Not but that it is good. In its compact pages-only 222 in all, and of a small 16mo size-are condensed more interesting and valuable statistics than we have ever before seen so grouped."-Christian Union.

THE MODEL PASTOR. A Memoir of the Life and Correspondence of REV. BARON STOWE, D.D., late Pastor of the Rowe Street Baptist Church, Boston. By JOHN C. STOCKBRIDGE, D.D. 12mo. Cloth. With Portrait, $1.75.

"To a certain extent this memoir is a record of the religious affairs in Boston since 1832, and will for that reason be interesting to a wider circle than the personal friends of the pastor, who ended his long labor less than a year and a half ago. "-Boston Advertiser.

CURIOSITIES OF THE LAW REPORTERS. BY FRanklin Fiske Heard. 12mo. Cloth. $2.00.

"

And know, my son, that I would not have thee believe that all which I have said in these books is law, for I will not presume to take this upon me. But of those things which are not law, inquire and learn of my wise masters learned in the law."-LITTLETON.

"Lawyers are usually supposed to be grave fellows, made of the sternest stuff,' but they appreciate jokes like other mortals, and, together with the reading public in general, we have no doubt they will turn with no little amusement to a work entitled 'Curiosities of Law Reporters,' compiled by Franklin Fiske Heard, Esq., and published by Lee & Shepard, of Boston. This little work is perfectly alive with technical puns and ridiculous styles of putting the case,' and will not only prove amusing but instructive as well "—Herald, Providence, R. I.

VERSATILITIES. By (R. H. NEWELL) ORPHEUS C. KERR. Containing all his poetical contributions, Patriotic, Sentimental, and Humorous. 16mo. Cloth. $2.00.

"We perceive in Mr. Newell's genius a blending of pathetic and humorous powers quite extraordinary, and an abundance of thought which refuses to be reduced to any law or limit, and will in time doubtless earn new triumphs for his pen."-Portland Transcript.

OVER THE OCEAN; or, Sights and Scenes in Foreign Lands. By CURTIS GUILD, Editor of the Commercial Bulletin, Boston. Crown 8vo. $2.50.

"A story of a boy's life at school, very pleasant to read, and, at the same time, very profitable. Many children who learn the collects every Sunday, without understanding them, may be led to study them with much more interest by reading of the use that 'Cecil Williams' made of them."-Young Christian Soldier.

Second Series.-A TALE ILLUSTRATIVE OF THE CHURCH CATECHISM.
Thirteen thousand copies have been sold in England. 12mo, 421 pages, $1.50.

"As a story it is very interesting, while it enforces in the plainest, clearest, and most satisfactory manner the full mean ing of the weighty sentences in our Church Catechism. A little girl who found its study a repulsive task, because she failed to comprehend what she learned, is led, in the story, through the sympathetic aid of a kind lady, to love its teachings, and to mould her life by them. This book deserves a place in every household."—Episcopal Register.

Third Series.-JOURNEYINGS OF THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL.

Though issued but a short time in England, five thousand copies have already been sold. 12m0, 484 pages, $1.50. "The story itself is interesting, showing how Sunday teaching can be applied to the temptations and difficulties which arise during the week. There is good, sound, religious instruction in these Sunday Echoes, and much wise counsel, which may be profitable to all readers, great or small; and children will feel more interest in the story of the Israelites after reading it than they did before."-Athenæum.

AROUND A SPRING.

BY GUSTAVE DROZ.

8vo. paper,

75 eents.

The following extracts are from an article which appeared in "The Nation" of February 23, 1871:

"They are written with just that art which redeems the most ordinary incidents from appearing commonplace. His longer novels are masterpieces of fiction. Autour d'une Source' (Around a Spring) is simple and pathetic. The hero is the priest of a little village; the other characters, a spendthrift count, who is a man of pleasure of the Second Empire; his rich wife; her father, who is a speculator; and a few others. We shall not give an analysis of the novel which it is so easy to get, but shall content ourselves with praising its great merits. Regarded merely as a bit of workmanship, it has all the elegance which, perhaps, will immortalize the best of the present race of French writers."

"The Galaxy," speaking of "Autour d'une Source" (Around a Spring), says:—

"With a wonderfully small amount of material the author has made a most graceful story, interesting from the beginning to the end. Portraiture of character, description of persons, dissection of motive, pictures of life in city and among the mountains, conversation, dialogue, development of plot, are all excellent."
