The tract numbers of all 40-acre tracts and lots consist of at least six numerical figures and one letter; the first two figures being the township number, the second two the range number, and the third two the section number. The letter designates the position of the 40-acre tract or lot in the section. (See diagram above.) Example: The tract number of the NE NW of sec. 16, T. 18 N., R. 29 E., would be: 18 29 16 E. In cases where the township, range, or section number is less than 10 the said number is preceded by a zero. Example: The tract number of NW SE of sec. 2, T. 9 N., R. 29 E. would be: 09 29 02 N. If the area in question is a subdivision of a 40-acre tract or lot, it is given an additional numerical figure in order to distinguish said subdivision from other tracts within the 40-acre tract or lot. This is often done when numbering small orchard tracts. Examples: The tract number of E2 NW SW of sec. 16, T. 18 N., R. 29 E. would be 18 29 16 J 1. The tract number of SW NW SW of sec. 16, T. 18 N., R. 29 E. would be 18 29 16 J 2. |
