hath one that judgeth him; the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him at the last day.

[Verses before Prayer.]

O Lord God of my salvation, I have cried day and night unto Thee; let my prayer come before Thee, incline Thine ear unto my cry.

Let us pray.

(Reader.) The Lord be with you.
(Response.) And with thy spirit.

O God the Father, who hast made us and all the world:

Have mercy upon us, Thy ruined and erring children.

O God the Son, who hast redeemed us and all mankind :—

Have mercy upon us, Thy weak and mortal brethren.

O God the Holy Ghost, who sanctifieŝt us and all the elect people of God :—

Have mercy upon us, fallen and miserable sinners.

O holy, blessed, and glorious Trinity, three Persons and one God; we sinners do most humbly beseech Thee evermore to defend us by Thy power, to conduct us by Thy wisdom, to restrain us by Thy justice, and to comfort us by Thy mercy.

We beseech Thee to hear us, good Lord.

From all overwhelming temptations; from provoking Thy wrath against us; from being given over to a hardened or reprobate mind; from living careless, or dying unprepared :—

Good Lord, deliver us.

From pride and anger; from envy and covetousness; from sloth and idleness; from excess in bodily desires or appetites :

Guard us, good Lord.

From carelessness and disobedience; from ill nature and cruelty; from all untrue words or deceitful ways:

Keep us, good Lord.

From dark doubts and spiritual fears; from despondency of mind; from weakening of our faculties, or loss of reason:

Spare us, good Lord.

From sore distress or hardships; from violence or oppression; from painful accidents and grievous diseases :

Save us,
good Lord.

With a sound judgment in all difficulties;
With success in our undertakings;
With moderation in our enjoyments:-

Vouchsafe to bless us, good Lord.

With living Faith to overcome evil :

With assured Hope of salvation :

With Heavenly Love to all Christ's people :
With Joy unspeakable and full of glory :-

Be pleased to enrich us, good Lord.

For all our relations, friends, and benefactors;
For those who are in any suffering or distress;
For the sick, the dying, and the bereaved :-

Son of God, we beseech Thee to hear us.

For the good of all among whom we live in this place;

For the prosperity of our native land;

For the welfare of the Church of which we are members :

Both now, and ever, we beseech Thee to hear us, O Christ.

[Here may be added any special Prayers or Collects.]

THE LORD'S PRAYER.

(Reader.) Grace, mercy, and peace be with you; from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father; in truth and love. Amen.

Wednesday Evening.

(Reader.) PEACE be to this house, and to all that dwell in it.

[Verses to be said alternately.]

1. Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

2. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

3. Jesus called a little child unto Him, and set him in the midst of them, and said: Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

4. Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

5. Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

6. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

7. Except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

8. O that my ways were directed to keep Thy

statutes.

9. No man can come unto me, except the Father which hath sent Me draw him.

[ocr errors]

10. Turn Thou us unto Thee, O Lord, and we shall be turned.

II. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in Me.

12. Thou art good, and doest good; teach me Thy statutes.

[Doxology, to be said by all.]

Who is like unto Thee, O Lord, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders.

[Verses before reading the Bible.]

Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

From a child thou hast known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation.
