would stay our minds on Thee. Let not trouble cast us down in despair; nor success uplift us in pride. Help us so to live, that our names may not be stained with disgrace; nor others be put to shame, by any fault of ours. Teach us to be prudent in our conduct, to be modest in our behaviour, to be truthful and kind in all our conversation.

Let us not be envious of others' good, nor do anything to cloud their happiness; but rather be full of good-will, ready to rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

(Response.) Quicken me, O Lord, according to Thy loving-kindness.

In our family life especially bless us, O Lord. May we together be strong for all life's difficulties, true and faithful to each other, in all the changes and chances of this mortal life. So may our dwelling together in this household be abundantly blessed by Thee; to train us up for a heavenly home, in higher companionship with the spirits of just men made perfect, with the holy angels, and above all with Christ our Saviour, in His glorious kingdom.

(Response.) Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth, and keep the door of my lips.

Do good, O Lord, to all our relations and friends, according to their need. For all who ever have done us good, we entreat Thy Fatherly blessing. Return all their kindness double into their own bosoms: rewarding them with Thy richest mercies here, and eternal happiness hereafter.

If we have any enemies, do Thou soften and turn their hearts. Let us never willingly give cause of offence; nor let the sun go down upon our wrath : but strive to be merciful, as our Heavenly Father is merciful.

(Response.) Let the words of our mouth, and the meditations of our heart, be always acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, our strength and our Redeemer.

[Here may be added any special Prayers or Collects.]

These our humble petitions we beseech Thee to accept for the worthiness of Thy Son our Lord, in whose prevailing words we ever pray :

THE LORD'S PRAYER.

(Reader.) Now may God supply all your need, according to His riches in glory, by Christ Jesus. Amen.

Tuesday Evening.

(Reader.) PEACE be to this house, and to all that dwell in it.

[Verses to be said alternately.]

1. God said, Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness.

2. We, beholding as in a glass, the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image, from glory to glory; even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

3. Go ye into all the world; and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

4. Prophecy came not in old time by the will of man, but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

5. The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

6. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness unto him ; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

7. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.

8. The Spirit also helpeth our infirmities, for we know not what we should pray for as we ought; but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us, with sighings that cannot be uttered.

9. Know ye not that your bodies are the temples of the Holy Ghost, which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

10. If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy.

II. When the enemy cometh in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.

12. Rejoice not against me when I fall, O mine enemy; when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me.

13. Grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

14. Cast me not away from Thy presence, take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.

[Doxology, to be said by all.]

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power; for Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are, and were created.

[Verses before reading the Bible.]

peace have they that love Thy law.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

[Here follows the reading of the Bible.]

[Verses before Prayer.]

Pray always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.

If ye being evil know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him.

[Then all devoutly kneeling, shall follow these Prayers and Responses.]

Let us pray.

(Reader.) The Lord be with you. (Response.) And with thy spirit.

O Lord God Almighty, ever-blessed Trinity, most humbly we approach Thy mercy-seat this night, with all our wants and weakness. From each day's experience we learn more of our own feebleness; and our need of the Holy Spirit's help and guidance.

We therefore plead Thy promise, O Heavenly Father, that Thou wilt give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Thee. May He be more and more our Teacher, to guide us into all truth: our Comforter, to cheer and refresh our souls: our Sanctifier, to make our hearts pure and holy.

(Response.) My soul waiteth for the Lord, more than they that watch for the morning.

While seeking His gracious help for ourselves, we also would at this time obey Thy word, directing us to make prayers and supplications for all
