Thy grace from all works of darkness or shame. Grant us such refreshing sleep as may fit us for the duties of another day, if it is Thy will we should see it. But may sleep, the image of death, ever remind us of the time when we must lie down to die may it warn us to be watchful, for we know not the day nor the hour of our Master's coming, or of His calling us to leave this world.

O help us to live in such a state of mind, as we shall not fear to die in. Enable us so to rejoice in the blessed hope of everlasting life, that we may always be ready to depart and to be with Christ.

(Response.) Hear, Lord, and save us, O King of Heaven, when we call upon Thee.

We would also raise our humble prayers, good Lord, in behalf of our native land; and of all among whom our lot is cast. Bless abundantly our Sóvereign, and those who in Thy Providence are set in authority over us so directing their counsels, and prospering their endeavours, that under them we may lead quiet and peaceable lives.

:

May all who are called to any office in our Church, be enabled faithfully to serve before Thee, to the glory of Thy name, and the salvation of many souls.

(Response.) Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel; Thou that dwellest between the cherubim, shine forth.

We make our earnest intercessions for the good of all our relations, friends, and benefactors: especially commending to Thy grace those who suffer in sickness, in trouble, or in bereavement. Increase and multiply upon them Thy mercy: making all things work together for their good. May every one dear to us so pass through the waves of this troublesome

world, that finally they may come to the land of everlasting life.

(Response.) O Lord our God, guide them here by Thy counsel, and afterward receive them to glory.

[Here may be added any special Prayers or Collects.]

These and all other mercies, for ourselves and others, we would humbly desire in the name of Christ our Saviour; and in the holy words which He Himself hath taught us :—

THE LORD'S PRAYER.

(Reader.) The God of peace be with you all. Amen.

Tuesday Morning.

(Reader.) PEACE be to this house, and to all that dwell in it.

[Verses to be said alternately.]

1. God is a spirit; and they that worship Him, must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

2. Whither shall I go from Thy Spirit, or whither shall I flee from Thy presence?

3. Our God is a consuming fire.

4. Who shall not fear Thee, O God, and glorify Thy name, for Thou only art holy?

5. God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.

6. If we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.

7. God is love.

8. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

9. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

10. I know Him in whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him, against that day.

11. This God is our God for ever and ever, He will be our guide unto death.

12. Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee, because He trusteth in Thee.

[Doxology, to be said by all.]

Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.

[Verses before reading the Bible.]

Open Thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Thy law.

Through Thy precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.

[Here follows the reading of the Bible.]

[Verses before Prayer.]

Let us lift up our heart, with our hands, unto God in the heavens.

I called upon Thy name, O Lord: Thou hast heard my voice, hide not Thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.

[Then all devoutly kneeling, shall follow these Prayers and Responses.]

Let us pray.

(Reader.) The Lord be with you.

(Response.) And with thy spirit.

O Lord God Almighty, ever living and ever true ; we adore Thee as the source of all light and love, of all strength and holiness. Experiencing again Thy goodness, we present ourselves humbly before Thy mercy-seat, praying that we may be ordered by Thy Providence, and guided by Thy Grace.

Remembering with sorrow our many faults and transgressions, we entreat Thy forgiveness for all that is past. Holy Father, pardon every sin and error, for our dear Saviour's sake; look on us only in the face of Christ Jesus, that being united to Him by faith, we may be justified in Thy sight. In Him Thou art well pleased, even with us sinners; may His goodness, which we trust in, secure us from all those evils which we most certainly have deserved.

(Response.) Save, Lord, and hear us, () King of Heaven, when we call upon Thee.

This day and all our days, good Lord, we would spend in Thy service; help us to turn all actions of our calling to the uses of Thy grace. May Thy Holy Spirit dwell in our hearts, giving us pious thoughts and thankful feelings: making us more and more such as Thou wouldst have us to be. Bestow on us the gifts of a tender conscience, clearly to see our duty; and a resolute will, heartily to perform it. May each day find us diligent in every way of improvement; so that at the close of it we may find good work has been done for Thee, and enjoy the sweet peace of feeling we have redeemed the time, and lived for Thy glory.

(Response.) Teach me, O Lord, the way of Thy statutes; and I shall keep them unto the end.

We know, O merciful Lord, that our lives are in Thy hands; whatever then this day may happen, we
