(Response.) O Lord, prosper Thy servants, we pray Thee, this day, and uphold our goings in Thy paths, that our footsteps slip not.

We implore Thee, heavenly Father, to bestow upon us as a family all the blessings of Thy Gospel of peace. May we live together as Christians ought. Enable those who bear rule in this house, to do so with all faithfulness, knowing they also have a Master in heaven and with all loving-kindness, as for a merciful Father in Christ. Help those who serve to act, not with eye-service only, but with goodwill, as unto the Lord; shewing all good fidelity. Grant to those who are elder, wisdom and patience, to train up the young in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. May the younger be humble and teachable, loving and obedient to those placed over them in Thy Providence. Influence us all by the sweet powers of Thy Gospel to do everything as in Thy sight, and in order to please Thee. Let all wrath, and bitterness, and evil speaking, be put away from us; may we be kindly affectioned one to another. Help us to be forbearing and considerate in all our conduct; that so we may enjoy the happiness of those who dwell together in unity.

(Response.) There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? Lord, lift Thou up the light of Thy countenance upon us.

Into Thy gracious care and holy keeping we would also commit all our relations and friends. May Thy goodness and mercy follow them all the days of their life; preserving them from harm and suffering, from temptation and sin. Help them to live in the faith of Christ, so that each day which they spend on earth may fit them more perfectly

for Thy service in that better land; where we pray, through Thy mercy, to meet them all at the last, in Thy eternal joy.

(Response.) Favourably with mercy hear our prayers. [Here may be added any special Prayers or Collects.]

Now, O Lord, these our humble petitions we would offer up unto Thee in the holy words which Christ Himself hath taught us :

THE LORD'S PRAYER.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.

Monday Evening.

(Reader.) PEACE be to this house, and to all that dwell in it.

[Verses to be said alternately.]

1. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him will I trust.

2. The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

3. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved, He that keepeth thee will not slumber.

4. Behold He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5. The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.

6. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

7. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night, nor for the arrow that flieth by day.

8. Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness, nor for the destruction that wasteth at noon day.

C

9. Because thou hast made the Lord which is my refuge, even the Most High thy habitation: there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

10. My soul shall be satisfied, when I remember Thee upon my bed, and meditate upon Thee in the night watches..

II. The Lord will command His loving-kindness in the day time, and in the night His song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.

12. I will not suffer mine eyes to sleep, nor mine eyelids to slumber, nor the temples of my head to take any rest, till I have called upon the Lord who is worthy to be praised.

13. I will lay me down in peace, and take my rest; for it is Thou Lord only, who makest me dwell in safety.

[Doxology, to be said by all.]

Now unto Him who is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless, before the presence of His glory, with exceeding joy; to the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power; both now and ever. Amen.

[Verses before reading the Bible.]

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.

[Here follows the reading of the Bible.]

[Verses before Prayer.]

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

Continue instant in prayer.

[Then all devoutly kneeling, shall follow these Prayers and Responses.]

Let us pray.

(Reader.) The Lord be with you. (Response.) And with thy spirit.

All glory be unto Thee, O Father Almighty, for watching over us during this day past; for defending us from numberless evils to which we have been exposed; and for also continuing many comforts and blessings, which we do not deserve.

Assist us now to look back on the day, examining ourselves faithfully, that we may see our faults, and be truly humbled for our sins. Too often we have sadly failed in reaching the high standard of Thy pure laws. Forgive, we beseech Thee, for Christ Jesus' sake, whatever evil or blemishes Thou hast seen in us. Speak peace to our hearts, through His work of atoning mercy; for all our hope is in Thy promised goodness, to those who put their trust in Him. Let us feel a sense of our acceptance in Him, to quiet our troubled conscience, and give rest unto our souls.

(Response.) Enter not into judgment with thy servant for in Thy sight shall no man living be justified.

:

Now, O Father, we commit ourselves to Thee for this coming night. Defend us by Thy power from all dangers, alarms, and diseases: and keep us by
