The chief characteristic of this Manual is, that it contains the Office for Holy Communion, including the Collects, Epistles, and Gospels, together with a suitable collection of Hymns. This completeness, obviating as it does the necessity for using several books, will be found very convenient, in these days when the celebration of the Holy Communion as a separate service has become very general. The Compiler begs to acknowledge with thanks the permission kindly granted by the Proprietors of "Hymns Ancient and Modern," Messrs. Nisbet & Co., and others, for the use of the Eucharistic Hymns. In order to make the collection as fall as was needed, some Hymns have been inserted for which permission could not be obtained, owing to the impossibility of ascertaining the Author or the Proprietor of the copyright. This fact, the Compiler trusts, will excuse any apparent want of courtesy in not asking permission. A TABLE OF ALL THE FEASTS THAT ARE TO BE OBSERVED IN THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
