you.

If you are anxious-prayer will help you to rest on God.

Such prayers as these do not need many words; you need not even stop in your work, if it is God's work, your duty, that you are doing.

Do not say 'I don't know how.' You want this or that, just ask for it. Ask in faith, and God will surely give it, if it is good for you.

As surely as you get into the habit of praying for what you want, so surely you will find the answers come, and you will get to understand the help and the use of 'praying without ceasing.'

PRAYER.

O blessed Jesus, who didst teach Thy disciples how to pray, teach us to ask Thee

for what we need. that even when our it is not really so.

Give us faith to believe prayers seem in vain In all our needs,

in sickness or in health, may we come to Thee, and when we have no time for words, do Thou read our thoughts and grant us an answer of peace. Amen.

HYMN.

Dost thou long for health returning?
Bend the knee in prayer;

He who made, alone can strengthen,
Seek for healing there.

Is thy heart bowed down by sorrow,
Wearied out with care?

At His feet cast all thy burden,

Seek refreshment there.

Dost thou need some friend or brother

In thy joy to share?

Go and tell it all to Jesus,

Seek true friendship there.

Dost thou crave earth's highest blessings?

Seek them all in prayer;

If it be His will who holds them,

Thou shalt find them there.

But if only thou art willing
Earthly loss to bear

For His sake, then, gain eternal
Thou shalt win through prayer.

PUBLIC WORSHIP.

TEXT: HEB. X. 25.

'Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is.'

TO-MORROW is Sunday. Have you thought how you mean to spend it? Before Before you decide, stop and think a little over these words, Not forsaking the assembling of yourselves together.' I need not tell you that St. Paul is here speaking of what we call 'public worship'-going to church. In the days in which he wrote, it was only in fear and trembling, with closed doors, and often at the risk of their lives that Christian people met together to worship God. And yet St. Paul well knew this

when he wrote those words and bade them, in spite of fear, in spite of danger, 'assemble themselves together.' It is far different with us now, we have no need to fear, and yet how slow we often feel to make use of this help in our Christian life. Perhaps to you, who have not much time

of

your own, Satan may make it a special temptation-may persuade you to spend the time you might have spent in church in taking a walk or in seeing your friends, and thus tempt you, little by little, to forsake altogether the assembly of God's people. Perhaps, too, he tempts you to ask yourself, 'What is the use of going to church? What good do I get by it?' Let us try and answer this question. First, do not need to be reminded that there the Holy Sacrament is offered to you, which, if you neglect, you cannot expect to grow in grace. Secondly, your soul is there strengthened by prayer and praise. Thirdly, you are there taught to know and understand more about God and the life to come. Are not these alone reasons

you
