HO' I have no great opinion of preface to small tracts, especially that seem not to require any prolegomena, and so consequently design’d none ; yet fince the printing this off, I find myself under a sort of obligation to say something that way: having been informed by fome friends, that there was a treatise lately published (which has since come to my hands) with the same title I design'd for mine. and with a great name annexed to it; and
; that both the book and the vanity (as they thought it) of the title-page pass’d for mine, with those that did not know me.
From which imputation the publishing of this, will, I hope, fufficiently clear me.
