THO' I have no great opinion of preface to fmall traits, especially that feem not to require any prolegomena, and fo confequently defign'd none; yet fince the printing this off, I find myfelf under a fort of obligation to fay fomething that way: having been informed by fome friends, that there was a treatife lately published (which has fince come to my hands) with the fame title I defign'd for mine. and with a great name annexed to it; and that both the book and the vanity (as they thought it) of the title-page pafs'd for mine, with thofe that did not know me. From which imputation the publishing of this, will, I hope, fufficiently clear me.
