Preamble.

1868 INTITULED "AN ORDINANCE FOR THE REGISTRATION OF BIRTHS AND DEATHS IN THIS COLONY."

Enacted 25th November, 1868, published the 28th follow. ing, came into operation on 11th March, 1869.

WHEREAS it is expedient to amend in certain respects Ordi

nance No. 10 of the year 1868, entituled "An Ordinance for the Registration of Births and Deaths in this Colony :" Be it therefore enacted by His Excellency the Governor of British Guiana, with the advice and consent of the Court of Policy thereof, as follows:

forward such printed form to such Registrar, either by some safe messenger, or by post; and if the receipt of such information is not acknowledged by the Registrar within Ten days, such informant shall be bound to make and forward in like manner a duplicate of such printed Form.

2. The Registrar shall, immediately upon receiving notice in any Registrar how manner of a Birth or Death in any part of the Colony within the receipt of limits set forth in the said schedule, forward to some one or more of the persons who are bound to give information of the particulars of such Birth or Death, such printed forms (two copies to each such person) as may be furnished to him for the purpose by the Registrar General, and shall require every person to whom a form may be forwarded, to fill up one copy of the same in terms of the preceding section of this Ordinance; and upon such form being filled up and returned to him, shall acknowledge the receipt thereof by letter addressed to the informant, and forwarded by some safe messenger or by post, and shall proceed to Register such Birth or Death in the Register Book, filling up the name, residence and description of the informant in the proper column, and adding his own initials at the foot of such column, and completing such entry in the same manner as if the informant had signed it; and the form shall be preserved by the Registrar and delivered to the Superin. tendent Registrar, together with the certified copies for the quarter next ensuing.

7. 8. Nothing contained in this Ordinance, or in Ordinance No. 10, of the year 1868, shall affect the obligation of any person under the "Administrator General's Ordinance, 1865," to report any death.

9. This Ordinance, except in so far as it is inconsistent with, shall be construed with, and shall form part of, Ordinance No. 10 enstrued with of the year 1868.

Ord. 29 anno AN ORDINANCE TO MAKE CERTAIN PROVISIONS RELATING
1868.]
TO THE LICENCE FOR THE SALE OF THE LIQUOR KNOWN
BY THE NAME OF COCOANUT RUM OR COCOANUT TODDY.

Preamble.

Enacted 27th November, 1868, published the 28th following, came into operation 1st January, 1869.

[FRANCIS HINCKS, Governor.] WHEREAS it is desirable to make certain provisions relating

to the Licence for the Sale of the Liquor known by the name of Cocoanut Rum or Cocoanut Toddy :-Be it therefore enacted by His Excellency the Governor of British Guiana, with the advice and consent of the Court of Policy thereof as follows:

1. The Liquor knowu by the name of Cocoanut Rum or Cocoanut Interpretation Toddy, shall not be considered a Spirituous Liquor, within the meaning of the term "Spirituous Liquor," or any term intended to mean "Spirituous Liquor," in any Ordinance now in force or hereafter to be in force.

2. Any person who shall sell, or offer for sale or shall exchange, barter, or otherwise dispose of, the Liquor known by the name of Cocoanut Rum or Cocoanut Toddy, without having a licence to sell the same shall be guilty of an offence, and shall be liable on conviction to a penalty not exceeding the sum of Forty-eight Dollars, and, in default of payment of such penalty and of the costs incurred, to imprisonment with or without hard labour for a term not exceed ing Three callendar months.

3. Any male person of full age may prosecute for any offence under this Ordinance; and every charge for any such offence shall be heard and determined by a Stipendiary Justice of the Peace, or a Superintendent of Rivers and Creeks; and all proceedings in respect of any such charge, shall be according to the provisions of Ordinances number 19 of the year 1856, and numbers 3 and 5 of the year 1868, and shall be subject to the review and appeal provided by the first and third of these Ordinances,
