[FRANCIS HINCKS, Governor.] WHEREAS at the Special Session of the Honourable the Court of Policy of British Guiana, with the Financial Representatives of the Inhabitants thereof, in Combined Court assembled, it was on the Twelfth day of March last past resolved, that it is expedient that a pension of Seventy pounds Per annum, commencing from the first day of January, One Thousand Eight Hundred and SixtyEight, should be granted to the Reverend ALEXANDER FERGUSON, and secured by Ordinance: Be it therefore enacted by His Excellency the Governor of British Guiana, with the advice and consent of the Court of Policy thereof, as follows: 1. From and after the taking effect of this Ordinance, it shall be Pension of $336 lawful for the Governor, in the name and on the behalf of Her Majesty, to grant to the said ALEXANDER FERGUSON a Pension of Three Hundred and Thirty-six Dollars per annum. during the term of his natural life; and the Colonial Receiver General shall, upon the warrant of the Governor, pay the said pension to the said ALEXANDER FERGUSON, or his lawful Attorney, quarterly, on the four most usual quarter days of the year, commencing as from the first day of January last past. British Guiana established by Ordinance No. 4, of the year 1852, has been for many years past maintained exclusively from and out of the Public Funds: And whereas it is expedient that the Institution should in future be conducted as other Public Institutions of the Colony and be placed under the control of the Executive Government, and for such purpose it is expedient that the property of the Institution should be vested in the Crown and the Officers thereof appointed by the Governor on behalf of Her Majesty: And whereas it is further expedient that the Law regulating the admission of children into the said Institution, and their education, training and apprenticeship should be amended, and that the benefits. of the said Institution should be extended to other children than those now eligible thereto, and also that provision should be made for the reformation of youthful offenders: Be it therefore enacted by His Excellency the Governor of British Guiana, with the advice and consent of the Court of Policy thereof as follows: Preliminary : 1.
