Particulars on application

A WONDERFUL SUBSTITUTE

FOR

SCRUBBING AND BOILING.

Mrs. Cook, Tower House, Orpington, Kent, writes on May 12, 1884:

'I have great pleasure in enclosing cheque in payment of your wonderful "Villa Washer, Wringer, and Mangler Combined." It is, without doubt, the best manufactured for small families. I gave it a good trial, having saved a three weeks' wash (for eight in family), and some of the things were unusually dirty, especially the servants' aprons; but after undergoing the process directed by you they were spotlessly clean. nothing having been rubbed, scrubbed, or boiled. I only regret I had not purchased one fifteen years ag I may mention that as I was returning from your establishment in a 'bus, I was discussing with my husband the properties of your "Villa Washer," when a gentleman asked me if it was "Harper Twelvetrees" I was speaking of, and upon our answering yes, he said he had had one for eight years, and would not be without it for £20. On this assurance I at once wrote for one on trial, and can confidently state it did its work well and in a third of the time of the old process by rubbing, scrubbing, and boiling. I state these few facts in the hope that some one who has been so very much troubled with a dirty washerwoman may send for one of your machines, and, if properly managed, I am sure the trial will be most successful.'

HARPER TWELVETREES' Villa Washer, Wringer, and Mangler, £5 58. and £5 15s. 6d., is sent for free trial, carriage paid, to any Station in Great Britain. Illustrated List and Pamphlet post free.

In addition, the Society expended £27,083 on various Life-boat Establishments on the coasts of England, Scotland, and Ireland.

The Committee of the Institution acknowledge with gratitude the liberal support which they have received from the British public during the last few years-a support which has enabled them to establish their present great fleet of 279 Life-boats, on the shores of the United Kingdom. Deeply sensible, however, of the great responsibility that rests on them to maintain their fleet in a thoroughly efficient state, and its crews practised in the management of their boats, which can only be effected by a large and permanent Annual Income, they earnestly appeal to all classes of their countrymen to continue to aid them in upholding and perpetuating so great and truly national work. The number of lives saved, either by the Life-boats of the Society, or by special exertions, for which it has granted rewards, since its formation, is 31,033, for which services, 97 gold medals, 968 silver medals, and upwards of £80,000 in cash have been paid in rewards.

The expense of a Life-boat, its equipment, transporting carriage, and boat-house, averages £1,000, in addition to £70 a-year needed to keep the station in a state of efficiency.

Donations and annual Subscriptions are earnestly solicited, and will be thankfully received, by the Bankers of the Institution, Messrs. COUTTS, & Co., 59, Strand; Messrs. HERRIES, FARQUHAR, & Co., St. James's Street; Messrs. HOARE, 37, Fleet Street, London; by all other Bankers in the United Kingdom; and by the Secretary, CHARLES DIBDIN, Esq., at the office of the Institution, 14, John Street, Adelphi, London, W.C.

PRESS NOTICES.

'It is got up in the style of The Graphic, and is profusely illustrated.'Newcastle Daily Chronicle.

'We spoke the other day of that excellent new paper the Christian Million as a "sixpenny weekly," and have been taken gently to task by its publishers for an error into which we were led by the similarity in size and general appearance of the Christian Million to the generality of our sixpenny illustrated weeklies. Its price is one penny, and at that it is, we need not say, a marvel of cheapness.'-Norwich Argus.

'Excellently got up, judiciously edited, and well illustrated.'-Leicester Daily Post.

"We should like to see this worthy publication, with its pure and elevating letterpress and unsectarian teaching, in every family circle in the land.'-The Cornishman.
