THE ACT FOR THE BETTER MANAGEMENT OF Highways in England (25 & 26 VICT. CAP. 61), WITH INTRODUCTION AND NOTES. BY W. CUNNINGHAM GLEN, Esq., BARRISTER AT LAW, AUTHOR OF THE LAW OF HIGHWAYS,' ETC. ETC. LONDON: KNIGHT AND CO., 90, FLEET STREET, PUBLISHERS BY AUTHORITY TO THE POOR LAW BOARD, AND TO THE HOME OFFICE, 1862. PREFACE. THIS work is necessarily supplemental to the Author's "Treatise on the Law of Highways," and he trusts that it will be as favourably received by those who are interested in the management of the highways in England. It has been arranged upon the plan of the principal work, in sections, so as to bring together the whole of the law upon each particular subject, in order that the reader may readily ascertain the steps required to be taken for the establishment of highway districts under the new Act, and the various duties and functions of Highway Boards and their officers. The new Highway Act is reprinted from the original text, and the Author has appended to the several sections of it voluminous notes, elucidating them where they appear to be obscure, and explaining them with reference to former enactments; and he trusts that the work will prove useful to those for whose use it has been designed. 5, Elm Court, Temple, 1st September, 1862.
