HAVE no design; I pursue nothing contrary to God's interest: but all my designs and pursuits are for God and holiness. I think I am sure of this, if I be sure of any thing. My great aim, and care, and labour, is to cleanse myself from all filthiness of flesh

flesh and spirit, and to perfect holiness in the fear of God.

To whom I yield myself a servant to obey, his servant I aon: but I do not yield myself a servant to sin, to obey it; but I do yield myself a servant to God, to obey him. The design and business of my life, is to do his will.

MR. Corbet was, for many years before his death,

afflicted with the stone to so violent a degree, that at -length he determined to submit to an operation; for this purpose he was carried up to London, but God saw fit to call him to a better world before it could be performed, for he survived his journey but about a fortnight, departing amidst great pains, yet in peace, having an assured hope of a blessed immortality.

The workings of his heart under his affliction, make it evident that the Spirit of God

was truly it him, and they amount to a satisfactory proof of the Almighty's special support of his children, under the chastisements he is pleased to lay upon them.

It is a beautiful and instructive view which is given us (Malachi iii. 3.) of Christ the head of the church, sitting

as a refiner and purifier of silver, to purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.

Our author seems to have been a remarkable instance of the skill, power, and care of the Lord Jesus Christ in the above character.

May it please God to grant us patience under our respective trials, and that "patience may have her perfect work," and our afflictions be made the means of our sanc tification, let us earnestly pray that the dissatisfaction and pain which are wisely scattered up and down in our passage through life, may incline us to seek happiness, in the enjoyment of him, with whom there is fulness of joy, and at whose right hand are pleasures for evermore.
