Bulletin No. 16 and prices sent on request Jeffrey-O'Toole Coal Cutting Machine (Patented.) 1805 May This machine is built to cut a kerf at various heights, being raised or lowered by large adjusting screws bolted to the truck. The machine proper is mounted permanently upon a steel truck which is provided with a self-propelling mechanism. After the cut is completed, it is only necessary to connect up the driving chain, release the jacks and move the machine from the room under power obtained through the electric cable reel which automatically winds up, or pays out the cable as shown in accompanying illustration. The track should, if possible, be so arranged that the machine is in the center of the room when up to the face. The cut is then made by starting the cutter bar into the coal at the left hand side and swinging it in a semi-circle. The speed of cutting may be varied by means of a ratchet and the machine is readily controlled by a friction disc clutch which also acts as a safety slip in case the machine encounters any material which cannot be cut. Operated by two men, this Loader follows any Coal Cutting Machines. After the Coal is shot down, it gathers same from the Mine Floor and loads it into Pit Cars. Its use reduces by one-half the number of working places necessary for a given daily output, and consequently reduces the cost of track, drainage, haulage, and most of the dead work incident to the maintenance of a large working territory.
