Three Foot Double Inlet Fan. This Fan is highly efficient for increasing mine ventilation or may be kept as an emergency fan for fires or other necessities. The casing is provided with expansion discharge which eliminates much of the power otherwise required.

PLAN

ELEVATION

These fans are being used extensively throughout the coal fields to increase the ventilation in mines having low seams and long air ways. It was formerly the custom to use the disc type of fan for this work, but with the advent of more stringent mining laws, the excessive use of blasting material and the extensive development

General arrangement in the mine of a Centrifugal Booster equipped with expansion discharge.

of the mines, it is found that the propeller or disc type of fan is no longer capable of furnishing the required pressure. These "Boosters" may be either belt driven or direct connected to motor with flexible coupling and equipped with a variable speed regulator, also automatic starter.

Two Foot Double Inlet Underthrow Blowing Fan for general ventilating purposes.

Four Foot Double Inlet Overthrow Blowing Fan for high duty "boosting" or any other general ventilating or blowing purposes.

Eight Foot Propeller Mine Fan which is a distinct improvement over any fan of its type, used for ventilating purposes. The main driving disc prevents churning of the air which is so common among other propeller fans.

Six Foot Propeller Fan fitted with steel casing for special connection. These fans are furnished with steel construction to meet any requirements.

Sixteen Foot Double Inlet Blowing Reversible Fan and Casing being assembled and fitted at shop before shipment. This casing is designed for a shaft mine and illustrates how every fan casing is erected at the shop and all holes truly matched.

Prices and full specifications will be furnished on receipt of the following information:

1. The maximum volume of air required. Also against what water gauge or pressure it is to be delivered.

2. State type of Fan, whether Blowing, Exhaust, Blowing Reversible, or Exhaust Reversible.

3. Whether Fan is to be driven by steam, or gas engine. If former, give steam pressure and approximate length of steam line; if to be driven by motor, state whether current is direct or alternating; give voltage and phase.

4. Whether the airway is a shaft or a drift. If the former, give dimensions inside of timbers at top. If for a drift, give sectional dimension at entrance.

5. Whether mine is new or old. If it is an old mine, give volume of air now obtained; also state water gauge.

6. Whether you prefer a double or single intake Fan, or if you will let us decide which is better for your requirements.

7. Whether we shall quote on complete equipment, or on Fan without engine

or motor.

Upon request we will send an engineer to your mine to obtain the above data and submit plans and specifications covering your requirements.

The Jeffrey Manufacturing Company has for over thirty years designed and built complete Mine Locomotives as one of their principal lines. The great variety of equipments which have been designed to suit various conditions have made it possible to incorporate in our up-to-date Locomotives the best ideas advanced in their time, and as a result, we are able to offer the highest development in the matter of design and equip

ment.

The most important element which goes to make up a successful Mine Locomotive is the Motor equipment. We have, therefore, adopted a motor capacity proportional to the weight, which will permit the Locomotive to operate up to the slipping point of its wheels without overheating or burning out any part of the motor. Controllers of the magnetic blowout type and Rheostats of the cast grid type are used on all our standard equipments.

The frames of the Locomotives up to and including six tons in weight are made of structural steel, with either wood or cast bumpers. From seven tons up to and including fifteen tons in weight, the frames are made of solid steel. Above fifteen tons in weight, frames are made of cast iron.

The mechanical arrangement of the details has been worked out to make every part accessible for inspection and repairs.

Jeffrey Thirteen Ton Haulage Locomotive-" Armorplate" Type. The frames of this type of Locomotive are constructed of solid steel plates securely bolted together, making them practically indestructible and eliminating the possibilities of broken side and end frames as well as insuring the life of the motorman and trip rider against serious injuries.
