All Jeffrey wire rope sheaves are accurately machined and balanced. These sheaves are filled with specially prepared hard rubber securely fitted in place. This filling greatly increases the tractive pull of sheave and prevents excessive wear of the rope. Jeffrey Gears Starting years ago with but a few spur gears used in the manufacture of self-contained machines, the following large lists of gears are evidence of that popularity which has been brought about by correct principles of design and high-class workmanship. DESIGN: Jeffrey gear teeth are of a special design approximating the epicycloidal type and in the pattern are uniformly machine made, so that the casting, with its extra depth of rim, substantial arms and large fillets, is of uniform strength throughout. WORKMANSHIP: Aside from being correct in the pattern and casting, each Jeffrey gear is bored true to plug gauge and keyseated Jeffrey standard keyway, unless ordered special. HORSEPOWER: The horsepower rating as given in the various tables are primarily based upon Wilfred Lewis' well known and accepted formulæ for cut gearing, with such modifications for both cut and cast gearing as our wide experience has warranted us in making for the better. The ratings given are based upon usual steady load conditions and are not sufficient to care for unusual and heavy intermittent service, which generally requires gears of from 50 to 100 per cent more capacity. GENERAL NOTES: Always use the horsepower of the smaller gear of a pair. The shrouding of the smaller gear of a pair brings it up to the rating of the larger gear. Extra price for shrouding on application. Continued TO ORDER GEARS FROM CATALOG-Specify as follows: 5. Keyseat or Set Screw (or both). Size of Keyway; if not Jeffrey Standard. 7. Pattern Number, if Angle Mitre Gears. TO ORDER GEARS TO MEET CONDITIONS-Give following information: 1. Speeds and exact size of both shafts. 2. Power to be transmitted and nature of service. 3. If spur Gears, distance between centers. 4. Largest outside diameter of gear that may be placed on each shaft. 5. If hubs are offset or special, give full information,―sketch if possible. Facing of Gear Hubs Gears are regularly furnished with one end of hub faced. Price to be added to List Price for Facing both ends of Gear Hubs.
