Chapter 38.

Resolve, Authorizing the Acceptance of a Donation to Blaine Memorial Fund.

Treasurer authorized to accept fund for Blaine memorial. Resolved: That the treasurer of state be, and hereby is, authorized to receive from the Security Trust Company of Rockland the sum of one hundred fortyeight dollars and fifty-four cents, the same being a deposit in said trust company made by a citizen of Rockland, since deceased, and constituting donations received by him from different persons whose names are unknown for the purpose of constructing a Blaine memorial at Augusta, to be held by said treasurer of state for the use and benefit of the Blaine memorial and to be added to any fund in the treasury held for that purpose.

Chapter 39.

Resolve, in Favor of a Bridge Over the St. Croix River Between Vanceboro, Maine, and St. Croix, New Brunswick.

Bridge across St. Croix river between Vanceboro and St. Croix. Resolved: That there be, and hereby is, appropriated from the state highway and bridge loan funds, the sum of seventeen thousand five hundred dollars to be available from the date of the passage of this resolve until June thirtieth, nineteen hundred and twenty-five, for the purpose of aiding in the construction of an international highway bridge across the St. Croix river between some point within the limits of the town of Vanceboro, in the county of Washington and state of Maine, and the parish of St. Croix, in the county of York and province of New Brunswick.

Provided that the expenditure of this amount shall not be made unless. the dominion of Canada or the province of New Brunswick appropriates the sum of seventeen thousand five hundred dollars to be expended for the construction of said bridge.

Said appropriation shall be expended under the direction of the state highway commission, who, acting with such person or persons as may be designated by the dominion of Canada or the province of New Brunswick for the same purpose, shall have charge of the construction of said bridge.

Chapter 40.

Resolve, Appropriating Money for the Care, Maintenance and Repairs of Fort William Henry in the Town of Bristol.

Fort William Henry, care and custody. Resolved: That there be, and hereby is, appropriated for the fiscal year from July first, nineteen hundred and twenty-three, to June thirtieth, nineteen hundred and twenty-four, the sum of three hundred dollars for salary of custodian and the sum of five hundred dollars for purchase of additional land at said fort; and for the fiscal year from July first, nineteen hundred and twentyfour to June thirtieth, nineteen hundred and twenty-five, the sum of three hundred dollars for salary of custodian and the sum of two hundred dollars for repairs; said sums to be expended under the direction of the commissioners of the state in charge of said fort.

Resolve, in Favor of Leslie E. Jacobs, Secretary of Committee of State School for Boys, State School for Girls and State Reformatories.

Expense committee state school for boys, etc. Resolved: That there be appropriated and paid to Leslie E. Jacobs, secretary of the committee on state school for boys, state school for girls and state reformatory for men and women the sum of one hundred and two dollars and sixty cents for expenses visiting the state school for boys at South Portland, state school for girls at Hallowell, state reformatory for men at South Windham and state reformatory for women at Skowhegan as per schedule submitted. John B. Wallace, state pension. Resolved: That a state pension is hereby granted to John B. Wallace, in the sum of twenty dollars a month.

Resolve, in Favor of Blanch A. Grant for State Pension.

Blanch A. Grant, state pension. Resolved: That the sum of fifteen dollars per month be paid to Blanch A. Grant, helpless daughter of Horace S. Grant, of Winn, Maine, late a soldier of Co. D, 22nd Regt., to be paid quarterly from the fund appropriated for military pensions, beginning January first, nineteen hundred and twenty-three, and continuing during the pleasure of the legislature.

Resolve, for Increase of Pension of Sarah J. Everson.

Sarah J. Everson, increase of state pension. Resolved: That there be paid to Sarah J. Everson of Addison in the county of Washington, a pension of ten dollars per month, payable quarterly from the fund for military pension, which payment shall be in lieu of any other state pension now provided by law.

Chapter 46.

Resolve, Providing a State Pension for Ada M. Cowan of Sidney.

Ada M. Cowan, state pension. Resolved: That there be paid to Ada M. Cowan of Sidney, daughter of a Civil War pensioner, a pension of ten dollars per month, payable quarterly beginning January first, nineteen hundred and twenty-three and continuing for two years.

Jane Anne Sewall, state pension. Resolved: That there be paid to Jane Anne Sewall of York, widow of Joseph Alba Sewall, a pension of six dollars per month, payable quarterly from the fund appropriated for military pensions, beginning January first, nineteen hundred and twenty-three and continuing for two years.

Chapter 48.

Resolve, in Favor of Wilmore Quimby of Haynesville for State Pension.

Wilmore Quimby, state pension. Resolved: That the sum of ten dollars per month be paid to Wilmore Quimby of Haynesville in quarterly installments from the fund appropriated for soldiers' pensions, from January first, nineteen hundred and twenty-three until otherwise ordered by the legislature.

Chapter 49.

Resolve, in Favor of the Reformatory for Women for Maintenance and Other Purposes.

Reformatory for women, personal services, maintenance, etc. Resolved: That there be, and hereby is, appropriated the sum of fifteen thousand and five hundred dollars for the year from July first, nineteen hundred and twenty-three to June thirtieth, nineteen hundred and twenty-four, and fifteen thousand and five hundred dollars for the year from July first, nineteen hundred and twenty-four to June thirtieth, nineteen hundred and twenty-five, for personal services, namely, salaries and wages of all officers and employees, except those wholly engaged in repairs of buildings and equipment of the state reformatory for women;

The sum of twenty-five thousand dollars for the year from July first, nineteen hundred and twenty-three to June thirtieth, nineteen hundred and twenty-four, and the sum of thirty thousand dollars for the year from July first, nineteen hundred and twenty-four to June thirtieth, nineteen hundred and twenty-five, for maintenance, including food supplies, clothing, replacements and for general expenses of the state reformatory for

women;

The sum of twelve thousand dollars for the year from July first, nineteen hundred and twenty-three to June thirtieth, nineteen hundred and twenty-four, and ten thousand dollars for the year from July first, nine

teen hundred and twenty-four to June thirtieth, nineteen hundred and twenty-five, for repairs and equipment of the state reformatory for women;

The sum of twenty thousand dollars for the year from July first, nineteen hundred and twenty-three to June thirtieth, nineteen hundred and twenty-four for new construction and permanent improvements, meaning an additional story to Stevens Cottage.

Making a total of one hundred and twenty-eight thousand dollars, for the two fiscal years aforesaid.

Chapter 50.

Resolve, in Favor of a Bridge Between Howland and Enfield.

Emergency preamble. Whereas, the bridge across the Penobscot river between Howland and Enfield is out of repair and its condition such as to constitute a menace to the safety of travelers thereon and extensive repair thereof is immediately necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety, and

Whereas, the foregoing facts constitute an emergency within the meaning of the constitution of this state, now therefore,

Bridge between Howland and Enfield. Resolved: That there be, and hereby is, appropriated the sum of twenty-one thousand seven hundred dollars or as much thereof as may be necessary for strengthening, replanking, painting and building a guard rail on the Howland-Enfield bridge across the Penobscot river, same to be expended under the direction of the state highway commission.

Emergency clause. In view of the emergency cited in the preamble, this resolve shall take effect when approved.

Chapter 51.

Resolve, in Favor of the Erection of a State of Maine Building on the Grounds of the Eastern States Agricultural and Industrial Exposition, Inc., at West Springfield, Massachusetts.

Building at Eastern States Exposition; appointment of building committee. Resolved: That there be, and hereby is, appropriated the sum of twenty-five thousand dollars, for the construction, including all necessary expenses incident thereto, of a building upon the grounds of the Eastern States Agricultural and Industrial Exposition, Inc., at West Spring
