6. The peculiarities which may characterise the various forms are noticed only as they occur: and therefore when the reader meets any without an accompanying comment, he will probably find it explained in the anterior part of the work.

Finally, the Author requests that the critical and controversial parts of the work may be received in the spirit in which they were written, that of free inquiry;-with a desire of correcting such errors as he presumes to think (without forgetting his own fallibility) have been fallen into by those whose authority sanctions their opinions, and whose value and general accuracy his quotations will show he can appreciate.
