HEREAS the Laws for the Settlement of the Poor have Preamble.

given rise to a course of expensive and embarrassing litigation: And whereas the Removal of Poor Persons who are incapable of maintaining themselves to the places of their settlement, according to the laws now in force, is frequently attended with much trouble and expense, and with grievous oppression to the honest and industrious among them;

FOR Remedy thereof;

BE it Enacted, by The KING's most Excellent MAJESTY, by and 10 with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal,

and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same, THAT no poor person or persons shall be . Poor Persons not

to be removed, removed from any parish, township or place (by reason of such poor

person or persons being chargeable or incapable of maintaining hiin 15 or themselves) between the first day of August one thousand eight After 1 August

hundred and twenty-four, and the first day of August one thousand 1824, if 15 years eight hundred and twenty-five, in which such poor person or persons shall have been domiciled or resident principally each year, for the space of Fifteen years; or between the first day of August one thou- nor after 1 August

1825, - if 14 years sand eight hundred and twenty-five and the first day of August one

resident ; thousand eight hundred and twenty-six, in which such poor person or persons shall have been domiciled or resident principally each year, for the space of Fourteen years; or between the first day of August nor after 1 August

1826, - if 13 years one thousand eight hundred and twenty-six, and the first day of August resident; one thousand eight hundred and twenty-seven, in which such poor person or persons shall have been resident or domiciled principally 159.

and thirty-three, in which such poor person or persons shall have been

domiciled or resident principally each year, for the space of Seven 25 nor after 1 August

years; or between the first day of August one thousand eight 1833, - if 6 years hundred and thirty-three, and the first day of August one thousand resident;

eight hundred and thirty-four, in which such poor person or persons

shall have been domiciled or resident principally each year, for the nor after 1 August space of Six years; or between the first day of August one thousand 30 1834, - if 5 years resident ;

eight hundred and thirty-four, and the first day of August one thousand eight hundred and thirty-five, in which such poor person or persons

shall have been domiciled or resident principally each year, for the nor after 1 August space of Five years ; or between the first day of August one thousand 1835, - if 4 years resident ;

eight hundred and thirty-five, and the first day of August one thousand 35 eight hundred and thirty-six, in which such poor person or persons

shall have been domiciled or resident principally each year, for the nor after 1 August space of Four years; or between the first day of August one thousand 1836, - if 3 years

eight hundred and thirty-six, and the first day of August one thousand resident;

eight hundred and thirty-seven, in which such poor person or persons 40

shall have been domiciled or resident principally each year, for the space nor after 1 August

of Three years; or between the first day of August one thousand eight 1837, - if 2 years resident:

hundred and thirty-seven, and the first day of August one thousand eight hundred and thirty-eight, in which such poor person or persons shall have been domiciled or resident principally each year, for the years.

And be it further Enacted, That from and after the first day of Nor after the

or resident One year. or persons shall be removed from any parish, township or place, by reason of such poor person or persons being chargeable or incapable of maintaining him or themselves, in which such poor person or persons shall have been domiciled or resident principally for the space
