6 Else there we still must lie,
And still sink lower down;
Our hope to rise is all from Thee,
Our ruin's all our own.

TRINITY SUNDAY.

L. M.

FATHER of heaven! Whose love profound
A ransom for our souls hath found,
Before Thy throne we sinners bend;
To us Thy pardoning love extend.

2 Almighty Son! Incarnate Word,
Our Prophet, Priest, Redeemer, Lord!
Before Thy throne we sinners bend;
To us Thy saving grace extend.

3 Eternal Spirit! by Whose breath
The soul is rais'd from sin and death,
Before Thy throne we sinners bend,
To us Thy quick'ning life extend.

4 Jehovah! Father! Spirit! Son!
Mysterious Godhead! Three in One!
Before Thy throne we sinners bend,
Grace, pardon, life, to us extend.

WHO made the world?-"Twas God on high:
He made the world, He made the sky,
The earth so green, the heaven so blue,
He made both man, and woman too,
And gave them fruit and herbs for food,
And sun for light, and trees for shade;
And God blest all that He had made,
And call'd it very good.-

2 What lost the world?-'Twas Adam's sin:
The wicked serpent enter'd in,
And tempting man to disobey,
He made his soul an easy prey:
Then lost he all, that God had given
His upright heart, his trusting eye,
His love, his faith, his purity,
. And more—his hopes of heaven.

3 Who saved the world?-'Twas Christ the Lord,
God's only Son, the Incarnate Word;
He left His Father's glorious throne
For our transgressions to atone ;
Though higher than highest seraphim,
He came, accounting joy as loss
To die for man upon the Cross,
d take our sins on Him.

4 But though our Saviour died for all, And paid the price of Adam's fall, All are not saved; but only they

Who seek for Heaven through Christ the
Buried in Baptism with Him [Way.
Must be the soul with Him would rise:
They who would join Him in the skies
Must live as cherubim.

5 Grant, Lord, that I till death may be
As Thou hast made me-one with Thee;
Engrafted on the heavenly vine,

May I abide for ever Thine.

By pleasure and by sin enticed,
Preserve me, Father, lest I fall,

Till the last trump the saints shall call
To reign with Jesus Christ.

FIRST SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY.

(EPISTLE.)

(See Hymn 48.)

82 THIRD SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY. P. M.
(1 Sam. iii.)
ONCE in the silence of the night

The lamp of God was clear and bright;
And there, by holy angels kept,
Samuel, the child, securely slept.

2 An unknown voice the stillness broke;
"Samuel" it called, and thrice it spoke :
He rose-he asked, whence came the wo
From Eli?-no: it was the Lord!

3 Thus early call'd to serve his God,
The paths of righteousness he trod;
Prophetic visions fill'd his breast,
And Israel taught by him were blest.
4 Speak, Lord, and from our earliest days,
Incline our hearts to love Thy ways,
Oh let Thy voice now reach our ear;
Speak, Lord, and let Thy servants hear.

83 SIXTH, SEVENTH AND EIGHTH SUNDAYS AFTER TRINITY.

(EPISTLES.)
LORD, dare we pray Thee dwell within
Our hearts, defiled with taint of sin?
Signed with the Cross in childhood's morn,
Adopted sons and soldiers sworn,
Then fostered by Thy Church's care,
By praise, by teaching, and by prayer.
2 Too soon by youth and passion flushed,
Baptismal seeds of grace we crushed,
Bade Thee, O Holy Ghost, depart,
And gave to earth our earthly heart;
Yet who save Thee can youth renew,
And quench its fires in quickening dew?
3 And who, in manhood's noonday beam
Can lead, save Thee to comfort's stream?
O if Thou seest us erring still,

O bend to Thine our stubborn will,
And bring us to Thy fold again,
need) by chastisement and pain.

sense,

4 Bring us by sickness and by health,
By tribulation, and by wealth,
Bring us by all the powers of
By all the course of Providence,
By inmost conscience not yet dumb,
By all the past, by all to come;
5 By God's best gifts, His Son to die,
And Thee our hearts to sanctify,
Bring us before our sun go down,
To bear the cross, to win the crown,
And then with songs of praise adore
The Triune God for evermore.

(Old 112th.)

84 NINTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY,

OR, AFTER EASTER.

C. M. 1 COR. X. 11. ALL THESE THINGS HAPPENED UNTO THEM

FOR ENSAMPLES.

WHEN Israel left th' Egyptian's land,
Through the Red Sea they trod,
The cloud above was brooding o'er,
The token of their God.

2 Then man was fed on Angels' food,
For meat enough He sent,

Their drink was of the living stream,
The rock that Moses rent.

3 They journey'd to a promis'd land,
Along a toilsome way,

They pass'd through Jordan's parted stream
The Ark of God their stay.
