THE object of the Author in the following pages is to supply the Profession with a practical treatise on the Law of Torts, in a concise and convenient form. Since the last edition of Addison on Torts was published in 1879, several Acts of Parliament have been passed which have materially altered the law as affecting Torts. One enactment, the Employers' Liability Act, 1880, is of such importance that it has been considered advisable to treat of it under a distinct heading; others, such as the Married Women's Property Act, 1882, the Bills of Sale Act, 1882, the Bankruptcy Act, 1883, and the Patents, Designs and Trade Marks Act, 1883, will be found referred to as the subject under consideration demands. Under the Title of "Railway Negligence," the Author has treated not only of the obligations of Railway Companies to the public at large, but also of their duties and responsibilities as Carriers of passengers and goods.
