3 Li has two meanings as thus spelled in English: first, a Chinese mile English mile; and second, of a candarin. A species of process-servers or bailiffs, etc., attached to a yamên. Yen is the Japanese pronunciation for yüan or yün, which is used as a name for the dollar by the Chinese.
