Vessels under construction in the several countries during 1912. Of the 4 armored ships authorized in 1912, 2 have been commenced in Government yards and the contract for the 2 remaining awarded Nov. 25 to Fairfield Shipbuilding Co., Govan, and John Brown & Co., Clydebank. The vessels are reported to be similar, of 27,000 tons displacement, armed with eight 15-inch guns, and a speed of 25 knots. Eight lightly-armored cruisers were authorized and 2 laid down in Government yards during October.
