the next fiscal year of $18,946,325 and a total cost of $41,710,611. A expenditure for the next fiscal year for construction heretofore authorized of $22,284,091 is necessary, making a total in the bill under "Increase of the Navy" of $41,230,416. This large appropriation for the next year for work heretofore authorized is due to the fact, as heretofore stated, that comparatively small appropriations were made last year under this appropriation, due to the late date at which the Navy bill became a law, and preparation of designs for new type of battleship.
