By the 26 & 27 Vict. c. 105, the restrictions on the nego tiation of promissory notes and bills under £5 imposed by the 17 Geo. 3, c. 30, and 8 & 9 Vict. c. 38, were abolished. JOINT-STOCK COMPANIES. Owing to the length of the work we have deemed it advisable to omit the insertion of the Schedules of the Companies Act. A convention has been entered into between Her Majesty and the Emperor of the French in 1862, and the King of the Belgians in 1863, relative to Joint-Stock Companies. With a view to define within their respective dominions and possessions the position of commercial, industrial, and financial companies and associations, constituted and authorised in conformity with the laws in force in either of the two countries, it was declared, that the high contracting parties mutually grant to such companies the power of exercising all their rights and of appearing before the tribunals, whether for the purpose of bringing an action or for defending the same throughout the dominions and possessions of the other power, subject to the sole condition of conforming to the laws of such dominions and possessions, COPYRIGHT. All customs duties on books being of editions printed in or since the year 1801, bound or unbound, and admitted under treaties of international copyright, or if of and from any British possessions, were abolished by the 24 & 25 Vict. c. 21.
