Although the comparatively circumscribed circulation of a periodical of this description to that of a more inviting and less original publication, would have justified the fixing of a higher price than such usually bear, nevertheless the Publishers are resolved to present the new Series at the lowest possible sum sistent with decided superiority of typography, paper, and general arrangement; and (if they may be allowed thus far to obtrude the merits of the work) they feel assured that when the high and original character of the matter is taken into consideration, together with the exclusion of all that is irrelevant to their especial object- of all that possesses a mere ephemeral and passing interest, and of all that would be solely suitable to the pages of a monthly register of news, they feel assured that, with these pecularities, the price of the “ Evangelist” will be esteemed but inconsiderable. In brief, the Editors may be permitted to acknowledge, and that with the greatest cordiality, the contributions of their various friends and brethren; amongst whom are some distinguished names, which will in some cases be appended to their several articles. In particular they are indebted to the two friends who have engaged to furnish them, the one with recollections of discourses by the Rev. John Foster, and the other with sermons of the late Rev.
