the passover.

AND the Jews' passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves. 56 Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast? 57 Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.

J. 12. 1

Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been 9 dead, whom he raised from the dead. Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom 10 he had raised from the dead. But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus 11 also to death; because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.

111. Jesus rideth into Jerusalem with triumph;
weepeth over it. He foretelleth his death. The
Jews are generally blinded.

On the next day much people that were come
to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was
13 coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm
trees, and went forth to meet him.

And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, 30 saying, "Go ye into the village over against "you; in the which at your entering ye shall

And if any 31 "man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus "shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath "need of him." And they that were sent went 32 their way, and found even as he had said unto them. And as they were loosing the colt, the 33 owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt? And they said, The Lord hath need 34 a 2 Kin. 9. of him. These things understood 16 not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him. The people there- 17 fore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record. And when L. 19.37 he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that Ps. 118. they had seen; and cried, Hosanna: Blessed J. 12. is the King of Israel that cometh in the name 13 of the Lord. Blessed be the kingdom of our M3. 11. father David, that cometh in the name of the 10 Ps. 148. Lord: Hosanna in the highest. And some of L. 19. the Pharisees from among the multitude said 39 unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. And 40 he answered and said unto them, "I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, "stones would immediately cry out."
